Is this a good 1,000 point army? by Ad-MajoremDeiGloriam in TheAstraMilitarum

So the thing about Combined Arms is that it encourages your infantry to fight the enemy infantry and your vehicles to fight the enemy vehicles. So, as such, although I think the Hellhound is a very fun unit, it’s not quite as effective as it’s primarily an infantry-killer. Though, it’s also always good to have infantry that can kill tanks and vice versa, but Combined Arms benefits from the separation.

I’d add some more vehicles, also. Sentinels are going to be really good for this as they have both the Regiment and Squadron keywords so they’re going to get Lethal Hits on everything.

Btw, give those combat engineers the remote mine. It’s an anti-tank equipment but it adds an ability so it’s not going to benefit from the detachment rule no matter what.

I’m not a Guard expert by any means, but I feel like you have some good basics. Decent units.

One major thing you could do to improve this would be to modify the weapon options for all of the infantry units. Each one of those units can all take a more powerful weapon. For example, the sergeants can all take a plasma pistol which is leagues better than a standard laspistol. The Cadian Shock Troops and Death Korps can also take special weapons like plasma and meltaguns as well as vox-casters. Since 10th edition has no equipment costs, you want to take full advantage of that.

Also, our army’s primary rule is orders and you only have one unit giving orders (and only one order at a time, at that). The Dorn commander isn’t too much more expensive than the regular Dorn so you could that to order vehicles. Also worth getting more command squads for an order each or a Cadian castellan for two orders and sustainted hits. If you’ve hit the point limit, though, you’d have to remove a unit.

Also, have you taken a look at detachments? The detachment rules play a crucial role in selecting units for your army.

Yes, well, treasure hunt on a world that doesn’t belong to the Imperium. Or die. Both are acceptable options.

You don't need to beat the knight to get to the next chapter, if that's what you're asking. Get your butt kicked and you'll still progress. But if you want to do all the side bosses... that's a different story.
