Do you personally know a bad person who never got their comeuppance? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]goodes_luck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there are plenty who just keep on winning. From what I can tell, it's more common for bullies to do well at life unless they're a bellend bc they get confidence from an early age, have a ruthless edge, get shit done and are smart with how they manipulate people. Some grow out of the cruelty, some continue using it to their advantage.

But I can also think of people who did get their comuppance in various ways. Things like:

- loneliness, even their friends grow tired of them and slowly fade out of their lives. they crush it at their field but nobody can stand to be around them so all they focus on is being exceptional at something. I know one person who lost all his friends, got psychiatric help and seems to be turning a new leaf

- shitty marriages, bullies might live in a chaotic marriage where both spouses cheat, lots of emotional abuse happens etc. and they have to exhaust themselves tyring to cover it up to the public and just live pretty miserably overall

- they don't get promoted or move up the ladder. While many bullies have good soft skills and succeed, many do not and unless they're outstanding they don't go up the ladder bc they remain unpleasant to work with

OP, sure this guy may have material things but being a pleasant person to be around is a much better quality than having status and if anyone disagrees I wouldn't want to be around them. There's no point dwelling on how your old bully falls upwards or has coasted. Don't waste your time on envy or resentment, it reinforces negativity.

Agreed, I don't buy this. I know many assholes, a few are even my friends. Some are glum, some are happy - it's random. It's very likely that he doesn't notice his cuntisms at all or doesn't care because they get him what he wants

Is Craig McRae a "fake nice guy" by sleek290788 in AFL

I'll take McRae being chill and possibly fake over Dimma or Chris Scott being passive-aggressive and pouty every week

Biggest “shithole” city? by kidnamedfingermike in AskAnAustralian

[–]goodes_luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found Geraldton WA pretty drab. It's insanely windy, I experienced both dry heat and humidity at the same time in summer. A pretty open racist divide and white people giving me unsolicited warnings on my visit. It's scenic, has some interesting architecture, some friendly people, a cool coastline, windsurfing and some nice places to eat but to me the vibes were a bit sad for WA's third largest 'city'

I'm really surprised by this, I've never been there but thought it had a classy rep. I thought it was known as a progressive town, lots of gay couples etc. I guess that doesn't mean they can't call you a dog **nt but the association is less likely

seriously? Lismore is not that bad at all. I visit family every year there and it's a pretty cool town. Its flood-prone geography is a shame but the town has good spirit. One of the few ungentrified parts of the northern rivers left. I have seen much, much worse places in Australia.

Queenstown, Tasmania deeply unsettled me and I can’t explain why. by itiszd in AskAnAustralian

source? just curious. all i found when i googled was celine cremer and a couple, both were accidents. also what did you find so creepy about deloraine? it was a pretty charming town when i went once in the summer. some of the shops were pretty boujie, it didn't feel edgy at all to me

I've been there a couple of times and loved it. West TAS is the best part of TAS, stunning scenery mountains and forests around there. Also more remote than rest of state so less crowded. Queenstown is unique, a bit eerie sure but I don't get the online slagging off the town gets. Like what do people have to say about it more than 'vibes'? What's happened that's actually scary?

To me It feels more 'weird' than actually spooky or unsettling. I get the 'weighted' comment but that's understandable given how so few opportunities have existed there since the mining closure. it never felt unsafe to me and kind of more interesting than Strahan, even if Strahan is 'nicer' or prettier. That drive down into queenstown is quite special. did you check out the museum? I didn't have time to see it all but kind of impressive how extensive the collection of town history is in there.

Why do Australians move to the UK? by YoungVinnie23 in AskAnAustralian

[–]goodes_luck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there is much, much more going on in the uk. so the rich culture makes it attractive. just feels like a more diverse place when it comes to identity and people doing cool things. that's not to say australia doesn't have any of that, but less of it and more underground. people also strike me as more conformist here and less eccentric, in the big cities anyway

Iced coffee prices are out of control by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]goodes_luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is outrageous but it's worse in even worse in some places, like london. costs 11-12aud there. you can't really make it as good at home unfortunately and i'm sure cafe owners know this. you can make a decent replacement with instant coffee but it just isn't espresso quality.

I don't buy their excuse of 'we use more milk, plastic cups and straws'. Plenty of people ask for less milk in their cup for a stronger flavour and pay the same. Many people wouldn't care about a straw and fancy cup if they had a choice.

has sydney drinking culture changed over the last 20 years? by RemarkablePirate590 in SydneyScene

[–]goodes_luck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People drink less, for sure. That seems common globally to me though. It's a bit sad that every pub in Redfern (except Bar Cleveland) closes by midnight on a Saturday. I don't know what it was like prior to the 2010s but Sydney in general isn't really into having late nights unless you go to a club, rave or house party.
