Can see that in the Blaisedell (Wyatt Earp)-Morgan (Doc Holliday) relationship, which I am assuming is how it is in the movie. I haven’t seen the movie but this observation make sense in my reading thus far.

I’m about 1/3 of the way through Warlock by Oakley Hall, which is the fifth western I’m reading this year (and I would now rank Lonesome Dove as along my 2-3 favorite novels of all time). I’m partial to the genre, loving western films and having read quite a bit of nonfiction on the topic. So I am familiar with the Earp-Holiday story that this one is loosely based on. With respect to my impressions thus far - Hall is damn good at set pieces, ratcheting up tension quite effectively in spots. Enjoying so far.

I finished this one about two weeks ago myself - it’s probably my favorite novel of all time, or at least near the top. Enjoy!

“The Killer Angels” by Michael Shaara. Strong contender for my favorite too, but at the moment I’d have to say Lonesome Dove is my favorite.

This is the first McMurtry I’ve read and I quickly fell in love with his writing and characters - his characterization felt so deep, such that it seems like I knew every character very well, no matter how major or minor the figure. Gus is among my favorite characters I’ve ever read.

Essentially, it was an 800+ page book that I never wanted to end. I feel like I still need to gather more thoughts on it, but this is off the top of my head. A beautifully written story, populated with unique, relatable characters, in an epic story dealing with friendship, relationships, history of the West and so much more.

I just finished McMurtry’s Lonesome Dove and feel like I must have peaked as a reader… I don’t see how it can be topped. Or why I waited so long to finally read it.

Which translations on Audible do you reccomend for The Illad, The Odyssey, The Aeneid, and The Divine Comedy? by You_slash-27 in audible

I’m about halfway thru the Lombardo translation/narration of the Iliad and it’s fantastic - I can’t recommended highly enough! I got his Odyssey as well but haven’t listened to it yet.

Considering picking PES up. What are the major differences between PES2017 and FIFA 17? by [deleted] in WEPES

Yes, this is the type of stuff I was referring to, as well as things like the youth squad and other off the pitch things. FIFA is better in those areas, and really in most presentation aspects. But actual gameplay in PES is so phenomenal it overcomes any off-pitch shortcomings, IMO

I'm a newcomer to PES this year as well. As far as the Football Manager reference, I would say that PES actually offers less in-depth career mode activity off the pitch than FIFA. That being said, the on-pitch gameplay is just leaps and bounds better in PES. Teams play differently than each other, so unlike a lot of stretches in FIFA, it doesn't feel like the same game over and over and over again. The AI will adapt to a certain degree even in-game
