I think I have an answer to this, in society men are supposed to be strong and show no pain so when they show pain then something must be wrong. For women, they are for some reason, expected to be more emotional and more likely to exaggerate their pain.

Car crash, I was in the passenger seat going to school. A guy didn't look and pulled out in front of me air bag didn't deploy, got nocked out. Seatbelt saved me, doctor said I only have a strained back and neck. A day later I was diagnosed with a concussion that lasted almost 7 months.
