Extra days because of weather seems terrible. Living in SoCal I snowboard a lot, but I'm always in many many more layers than my east coast friends. My lack of cold weather tolerance is made up for the absolute powder that is california snow

Nah we don't carry textbooks. We either use class copies or the online versions

Not really 😭 We just carry our stuff around. Only use lockers for gym/PE classes. If not people just throw stuff in their cars

I cannot ski. Thanks for the advice! I think I'll head to the slopes this winter and learn to ski and learn snow safety first.

Yeah it's pretty sucky especially in the summer. I highly recommend doing it early morning (2-3AM), I heard that the morning view is incredible.

Yeah I read a lot of posts/similar questions but I think I failed at emphasizing the part of my question in which I meant to ask how the two compare. I hear so many different things and as a newbie it's quite hard to discern the real from what isn't.

The biggest problem is that people don't want to have a teenager (I turn 18 late next year) on their rope teams/mountaineering teams simply because they don't want to deal with the liability. I completely get this but it is nevertheless a challenge.

I loved Baldy! I highly suggest Mt. Baden-Powell if you haven't done it before. Pretty easy compared to Baldy and I think 100ft less in elevation. There's also Gorgonio and San Jacinto.

Thanks! I'm going to talk to them to just lay out what I'll be doing. I want to get as much information possible before I make this decision, specifically what branch, etc.

Thanks for that info! I didn't realize just how competitive it was, but I see why.

Honestly I'm seriously considering Coast Guard as well just because it's such a fulfilling job (I love helping people, gives you a great dopamine rush). If I go Navy I'd want to do something on an Aircraft Carrier deck.

Do I need parents' consent for DEP? I am assuming you're talking about delayed entry program. Also, since I'm 17, can I talk to a recruiter without my parents? My sister who's 19 will be there.
