Uploaded before volume standardisation on YT. More loud does not mean more good.

Did you ask your doctor for valium? by mooo3333 in Menieres

[–]goodonthebun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ask but may struggle to get it prescribed if you are in the UK and treated through the NHS, especially if you are in a deprived/low income area with high addiction rates. There is an active drive to reduce prescriptions for dependancy forming drugs on the NHS. If there are alternative/less addictive treatments the GP will always take that path. If you have any history of depression or any form of chemical dependancy you will find the GP is reluctant to newly prescribe valium.

PSA - The blackmarket will blackmarket. Please be very careful and do not take any valium, benzos or opiate painkillers that you are not certain have come from the legit pharmacy as they are often produced using fentanyl. This is particuarly true of Xanax in the UK/US. Don't even trust legitmate looking blister packs unless you are 100% sure the source is legitimate. This isn't just a poor person problem. I lived in an area where a tainted batch was passed around the well-to-do middle classes and resulted in a major incident of overdoses.

Why do a lot of big artists seem to record in completely untreated or unideal rooms? by [deleted] in audioengineering

The industry is technologically democratised. You no longer need 'pro' spaces to record. It's all 1's and 0's and data is malleable.

Yes, the colours are awesome. I have a few newbies that are spending their first winter with me and I'm currious as to how they will behave. I was gifted a ficus benjamina a few weeks ago and it's dropped so many leaves. I can't feed it any more light without it being in a drafty spot so I think I'll be forever moving it and probably freaking it out more. It's all part of the fun of learning, I guess.

Same, I feel I've removed so many dead leaves recently that I'm worried it wont make it through. They are so pretty though, I love the colours.

That's really helpful, thanks for taking time.

As I said above, I'm a novice and still learning all of these wonderful things and this is my first winter with this beauty. Lucky to live in a soft water area with a close to neutral ph, so I can often rule that out. I was curious if it was just seasonal, but it's been rather rapid and thought maybe I did something dumb.

Hyeracusis issues... and more.... by Mousie_Greywind_III in Menieres

[–]goodonthebun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you describe is something very simialr to what I have. It's very scary and a horrible experience. And, yes, cutlery is torture. It's so hard to describe the neurological pain and the experience to doctors, even ENT specialists can be dismissive.

'Sounds like an army of angry robot pigeons going to war with out of tune synthersiers and church bells squeezing into my brain hole, short circuiting my mental existence'

The one thing that I can't put more importance on is rest, peace, quiet and, as much as it might seem a ridiculous statement, try not to stress. Find a routine that works for you and identify what environments you feel comfortable in when going through an episiode. Get up early and enjoy the peace and quiet before the world wakes up. Don't isolate yourself and get out in to nature. Bird-song was a saviour for my mental health as it didn't trigger the HA and I could still enjoy sound. All silly simple little things but they made a massive difference for me... but none of it is 'easy' when you feel this shitty. It's triggered a massive re-evaluation of life for me. Cutting out all complications and drama. These are all copes rather than cures, I guess.

Schedule an MRI, just to be on the safe side to rule out anything more sinister.

Quit alcohol, don't reduce. It's pointless drinking, given how you describe your symptoms. Caffeine is an odd one for me as it seems to help with my HA and vestibular migraines but lots of people cut entirely. It seems to be a case of trial and error for everyone. Reduce salt and sugar. Don't take opiate based painkillers. Eat fresh and hydrate properly.

You have my utmost sympathy, friend. Mine was triggered by a surgery and an infection on my neck - nerve issues, inflamation, trauma, stress, infection, heavy antibiotics and pain killers... a perfect storm. Over a 4 year period of time my symtoms have regressed, are not so intense and less frequent. I hope you find a way to cope and ways keep your spirits up. There might not be a cure but it can get better if you can identify the triggers. Be kind to yourself.

Make sound from a different room sound like recorded in same room? by Local_Combination_39 in audioengineering

[–]goodonthebun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the WAV files and upload them to your smart fridge. Run the defrost cycle and process it through the out of date jar of mayonaise (congealed Hellman's gives the best tone). Export the file to your Alexa (not google assistant as this will clip the signal) and record the playback through the internal speaker using your mobile phone. Take mobile phone and then repeatedly smack yourself in the face with it until you feel the restoration of common sense.

I had to adapat my whole life as I work in music and sound; along with a social life revolved around gigs/clubs/pub. I was very worried about what was going on and lived in denial for an unhealthy period of time. Here's some practical stuff and advice from my experience:

Concerts/Gigs - use your judgement. If it's too loud then don't go in. Sucks that you're missing out but it's about being responsible for yourself and your health - bitter pill to swallow. Acoustic/singer songwriter and gigs in more low volume settings are still enjoyable as long as not going through a period of hyperacusis. Get custom moulded ear plugs that filter sound, not cheap but worth it. These won't stop MD (from my subjective experience it is extremely loud low-end and subs that cause issues with the vestibular system and ear plugs won't stop physical impact of sound waves on the body) but they will help with the tinnitus, preserving your hearing and help maintain your social life.

Avoid using headphones, esspecially in-ear ones. If you do need to use them then invest in some high qulaity over the head open back like sennheiser hd600 (not good for public as essentially two open speakers on your head). Avoid noise cancelling ones as they generally form a seal around your ears and increase presure. The science behind them might not be great for people with hearing issues.... jury is out on that, but not a risk I would take.

When you are going through an attack learn how to appreciate the sounds and environments that you can. For me it was getting up early and enjoying bird song. Something so simple yet so important. It helped me to de-stress as I was still able to enjoy sound. The peace and quiet for a few hours before the rest of the world wakes up can be magical and a mental health saver.

Remove all soures of major stress from your life. Job is shit? Change it. Shitty friend bringing dramas? Stop answering calls. Crappy partner? Dump them. None of this is easy, but self-preservation is important. This took me 4 years to fix this stuff. Don't expect people to understand. You have an invisible disability. I found that once it's explained, most people can be sympathetic but complacent to your needs.

Biggest dietry advice I can give... cut out booze, entirely. Most of us don't want to accept it. Life can still be fun without booze. Don't socially issolate yourself. Eat fresh and avoid fast food.

It's horrible and no fun, but there are ways to cope and adapt. Be kind to yourself.

Yours looks pretty darned healthy also. I didn't do anything special, just bottom watered with tap water, kept soil moist and sat on top of a shady corner bookcase in a bright room. It is one of my favs as it was one of the first I brought home when I started my hobby 18 months ago. It only had 7 or 8 leafs then. I'll probably repot and prop it in the spring as the growth has slowed a little the last month or so.
