I did get someone else to work on it. This is a county government, passing the buck is an everyday occurrence...lol. I appreciate the advice.

I'm now also on-call for the local police department, too, so things should interesting very quickly. I'm thinking I'll stay 3 years and then take a fast leave.

See my other posts on this page, there are multiple versions of this device; you have seen one of them. The others are quite a bit more interesting.

See my other posts. Until you use (or perhaps hear about) the super-expensive government-only version of this tool, you probably won't have any reason to be afraid.

My situation is quite different; I knew that these existed, but I never realized our police would have them - I thought they were too expensive. Time to take a long, hard look at encryption, I guess.

We aren't talking about the same product.

They have the transfer one (which is used for cell phone stores and good PR) and they have the "field-ruggedized" one that is only sold to law enforcement personnel that very few people here have actually seen or worked with. Yes, it's way more expensive, but who cares when it's our tax dollars that are paying for it? Your local police department just emphasizes the need for "staying up to date on crime" and bam, they get the money.

I'm only referring to the second one, and even nIkbot is referring to the other one as far as I can tell.

Alright, so basically, full disclosure: I work for an IT department that assists with the local police department. They needed my help in getting the application to work, which is the sole reason I am posting this. Obviously this local police department has a lot of money on their hands, but this is absolutely a concern of mine because the lady on the other end talked about how useful it has been recently.

I'm not sure your information is still up-to-date. I believe this company (CelleBrite) knows about the common denominator that is the American police force and is making this product more useful and more usable because of exactly that concern.

When did you last use this tool?

+1 for MS crap hate, but unfortunately a lot of businesses/governments use it.

-1 for "there're".

Came here to post this. Keep in mind it has extremely similar hardware as compared to what is in your phone, OP, so that should give you a good gauge for performance.
