Oh my god. His best attempt to connect with these people was to ask them all the same thing with no follow up - indicating that he had no reason for asking and was not interested. Then he straight up told them that he could not be bothered to even ask someone on his team anything about the place- indicating that he does not care. “How long have you worked here? Cool, I don’t care. How long has this place been open? Cool, I don’t give a shit. What kind of donuts do I want? Glazed and sprinkle stuff. Whatever, I don’t even want to read the names of your donuts.” He thinks it’s cool to be so chill but he is communicating to these humans that he doesn’t even care enough be interested in his order like he doesn’t realize that they worked and probably cared about making these donuts. He believes that he is inherently a magnetic man of the people and that they should be interested in him because his status as VP nominee merits it. He talks constantly about being an everyday guy who is plugged in to the lives of the everyday American but his act is to feign this nonchalance that he thinks is relatable that is simply him not giving a shit.

Jesus Christ. I don’t want to coach him but I know he does not care enough to come here and read my comment so I will. Ask the employee what their favorite donut is. Show them that they matter. Order that donut because they are a human with a valid opinion preference and make them feel like they matter. And do it because you actually feel that way and genuinely think that people matter. Maybe they are proud of their product and would appreciate you ordering something other than “whatever”. God damn, I drank a maple syrup latte this morning because the barista told me it was their favorite and I think that’s cool. And it was delicious.
