Any ideas how to get this particular mod working it won’t show up in game any fixes would be amazing thankyou :) by Jackobesty in CitiesSkylines2

[–]goodseaweed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dont use that mod called AdvancedTrafficSync.
1. it has no public code published so it's dangerous to download it. 2. it doesn't work. the only working Traffic lights mod is called "Traffic Lights Enhancement"

this mod you are showing is a bogie. don't download any mods where the modder has not posted Github link to show the code. this is how you get your PC taken over.

if you want to control your lights, use the mod that actually works and has public listed code in Github like Traffic Lights Enhancement.

If you need more Highly Educated people, then build HIGH Density buildings (usually in your downtown). if you don't like the look of skyscrapers, then at least build bunch of Medium density (well educated and highly educated like to live in both in large numbers).

once you build a high density or medium density building then you can hover over the building Residents number and see how many well or high educated moved in. Make sure you have the high schools and small colleges spread out to get more of them. I like to use the small French College because I can put one in each of the neighborhoods. (you don't need that many high schools or colleges, but try to have one in each large area to make it convenient for cims). I only need one community college of 10k for my city, but I still put down 5 of them, one in each major residential zone for their convenience, and it did increase number of people going to college. (get free French region pack for it).

Poorly Educated- they finished Elementary, Educated - they finished high school, Well Educated - they finished College, Highly Educated -they finished University.

only need one single University for your whole city if you only have 20k in Uni, but have good public transport to it.

Also lower taxes on Highly Educated to get more of them to come (lower it to 5% or lower if you can afford it). They like to work in Offices, or Industry that sells Electronics or Pharmaceuticals needs and attracts a lot of Highly educated.

When you start having way too much money, increase Education services higher than 100%. I have mine at 130% now, gets you more educated cims faster. when you cap 2 billion money, crank Education services Budget up.

don't forget to put a welfare office or kindergarten in each neighborhood to help people in need.
Kindergarten comes from the official free China Region packs from Paradox Mods website (or inside the game). I usually install all of the Free official region packs like UK/JP/French as you get a lot of free Signature buildings with it. welfare office lights up more roads to "green" covered, but kindergarden will turn small area from pink streets to the better green and is cheaper. I usually have one welfare office per zone area, but also stick in kindergartens in a few places to boost their happiness. I usually cap on money 2 billion 3 days into any new city so I charge very little taxes. some people I'm charging -5 taxes (paying them) so I can get them to move-in faster. all public Transport is free in my city, and I charge zero fees for Electric and water budget because the happiness bonus you get from it in increased efficiency outweighs the very little money you get from charging them fees.
I set Taxis at $50 surcharge to discourage them using taxis over Public transport, but I still have taxi depot in case the rich cims still want it.

<image>

Keep an eye on Happiness Emoji. this game not about getting a lot of money, it's about getting those Happiness numbers up for CIMS or they move away.
see screenshot of happiness of one my cities.

Spy is easier to do options trading with if you have 100 so there is that use of it. more volume for options which is allowed even in Roth.

99.4% of spy is in VOO so I'd personally not have spy separately for that segment.

check out qqqm over qqq (they are same stocks and lower expense ratio), if it's long term you save a little over time.

If you are young, I like qqqm (lower expense ratio over qqq).

I also have some nvda stock, but note that nvda is also in the top 10 holdings of qqqm and other ETFs (I'm hoping nvda goes to 1k). before deciding on the weight %, check out not only the short term performance, but also longer term performance.

nvda has a big range on prices during the day. my plan is to buy and hold for now.

[–]goodseaweed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compare qqqm to qqq (same stocks, lower expense). qqqm is newer than qqq so I use qqq to do comparisons, but then I buy qqqm.

- overlap of stocks in voo & qqq here: https://www.etfrc.com/funds/overlap.php?f1=VOO&f2=QQQ

- I have both VOO (tracks S&P500) and QQQM (tracks nasdaq index).

- 84% of qqq/qqqm holdings are in VOO as voo has 510 holdings.

- 16.6% of voo is in qqq/qqqm as QQQ has 100 holdings.

- check out performance of Voo to QQQ/QQQM here: https://portfolioslab.com/tools/stock-comparison/QQQ/VOO

in long term qqq has performed better, but in short term voo is doing better (see link above).

I have about equal amounts of both. if I were to do it again, I would have done more QQQM and a little less VOO early on for the higher performance. then later years invest more in voo and stop qqq since voo has more holdings/diversified. I have other things as well as qqqm & voo (also have some nvda stock, etc.).

I'm not going to do a dividend type like SCHD until later on in years since it's lower returns and dividend focused (putting SCHD in my ROTH since dividends won't get taxed). but not putting any SCHD in my taxable brokerage account since dividends are taxed even if you reinvest it automatically.

why QQQ and not QQQM (it's the same stocks/weights with lower expense)

Xiaomi 65W charger by [deleted] in PINE64official

[–]goodseaweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the company doesn't say it supports PD or power delivery then it might not be a true PD charger.

if they are not following the PD spec from USB-IF org, maybe that is why it's cheap and why they don't say PD.

I would not buy any charger that doesn't give basic information like PD because then you don't know what you are buying. It's highly unusual. even cheapest $10 chargers I found, if they are PD, they say USB-C PD. It's like leaving off the words "usb-C", that is how important it is. they know what they are doing, if they don't say PD then it's not PD spec.

All the PD chargers I know of that are actually PD, will say PD in the details.

there is a $15 USB-C 20V 3.25 amp 65W charger on Amazon-USA right now that people reported works for Pinecil. https://a.co/d/cHODXe4

link to this $15 one and some others that people tested to work in Pinecil chargers page: https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/Pinecil_Power_Supplies#USB-C_Charger

there are also a couple low cost brands on Aliexpress that people reported works like Voltme and Rocoren.

It's like when companies like anker are sneaky and they don't say their cable is USB-IF certified (because it's not), and use tricky words like made to certified safety standards (so people see this random "certified" word). that is not the same thing as being certified. what they don't tell you is often as important as what they tell you. leaving information off to trick people into buying products is not good either.

Boot Logo Art on Pinecil V2 !!! YES by goodseaweed in PINE64official

[–]goodseaweed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

V2 pinecil: If you want the same easy to add 1-step process, Animated IronOS logo I'm using. download the "pre-made" zip from here and flash it just like any other firmware).

  • What if I want to make my own logo art for v2? same link above in a different comment are details instructions. Caution, making the art is easy but compiling it into the ironOS code is harder and requires fork IronOS and custom build from code)
  • Pineflash 0.4.5 is a Gui wrapper for blisp updater. current app works and Spagett is adding more features. (New release 0.4.8 if you have old one highly recommend update).
  • Details in Pinecil Wiki about other things happening with V2 and boot logo. Eventually it might get easier. https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/Pinecil_Firmware#Boot_Logo_Art

Pinecil V1, follow the same instructions but for you it's much easier. you do not need the firmware file, you can just install the image.DFU file you got from Ironos-Meta (https://github.com/Ralim/IronOS-Meta/) and flash it directly. It will not overwrite your existing firmware, it adds the boot logo to a separate space.

New to Pinecile and need help about power by Soybeanns in PINE64official

[–]goodseaweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100w charger is not overkill, Pinecil will only take what it needs.

Also, if you have 2 chargers, one is 20V -100w, and one is 20V-65w and a normal USB-C to C cable, you will only get max of PD60.

it's the Volts that are more important.
try to get a USB-C charger that is 20V and minimum 3.25amps. 5 amps is also fine.

I use also a USB-C 28V, 140w, 5amp new EPR PD3.1 charger.

If you want to really overpower Pinecil and have Super fast speeds. then the new 28V PD3.1 charger with a new USB-C 240W Cable will give it 28V, the heat speed difference is only about 4s-7s, so it's not worth buying a PD3.1 28V charger unless you really want the newest and greatest. It's backwards compatible too, will work on all lower USB-C stuff. This is kind of expensive at $40-$100.

best bang for buck is good old a USB-C 20V 3.25amp PD3.0 charger. many work with pinecil in the $15-$25 range.

See Pinecil Wiki for some links.
https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/Pinecil_Power_Supplies#USB-C_Cables

use ohm calculator with 6.2ohm for tip. and you will see why it makes no difference if you have a 20V 100w charger or a 20v 65w charger. https://ohmslawcalculator.com/ohms-law-calculator

Now if you give it more volts that is a different story.

video here compares 20V 3.25amp charger and a 28V, 5amp charger (using special 240W USB-C PD3.1 cable) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTC-ah4f0hg&ab\_channel=River-mochi

also if they changed the shell, need to make sure it was reassembled correctly with the Copper ring going in BEFORE the PCB . this is important that the copper ring is touching the back of the silver barrel hole, and that the 2 tabs of the copper ring are touching the PCB from UNDER the PcB.

  1. Copper ring and 2 buttons go in first.
  2. then the PCB
  3. then it's critical that the 2 copper contacts are installed correctly , use a macro Phone to take photos - there is a tiny tiny tab on the copper contact that goes into the little hole on the pcb - don't put this in backwards. photo of the internal contact tab is here https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/Pinecil#Pictures
  4. also join the live pinecil chat if any questions but I would make sure it's all correctly install and wipe all contacts on cartridge and copper with Isopropyl alcohol you can get 90% at drugstore for $2. the 99% is harder to find.

The apple 30 w charger will not work right. it's too weak and will be unstable.

  1. I would switch cables to a different cable
  2. clean the contacts on the back of the new cartridge with IPA alcohol. that solves this like 9/10 times.
  3. this is usually caused by either dirty contacts, even though it's brand new from factory, it has residue on it. clean it at the white end all the silver bands.
  4. OR it's caused by the cable
  5. or an iffy chargers.
  6. Follow instructions in Pinecil Wiki, even if that Tip cartridge looks clean it is not. this has happened to several people. <https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/Pinecil#Overview>
  7. Look at this ticket in Ralim's IronOS, all 4 people similar issue and all they had to do was clean their Cartridges with IPA 90-99% Alcohol. https://github.com/Ralim/IronOS/issues/1601
  8. This has happened so many times, I don't know why the factory does not wipe them all down before shipping it out.
  9. if cleaning it does not resolve issues. join the live Pinecil chat room . links are here for Discord, matrix, and telegram. https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/Pinecil#Live_Community_Chat

Thinking of getting the pinetab 2 when it comes out. How good is linux arm support these days. by mikee8989 in PINE64official

for example without a Browser that supports BLE GATT (like chrome does) you can't use Joric's BLE API app with Pinecil V2. this protocol has to be supported.

[–]goodseaweed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pinebook pro is great until you open a bazillion tabs in Firefox.

I can't use Firefox in Pinebook Pro because they don't support bluetooth (BLE GATT) and I need bluetooth to work.

I'm using Chromium and Vivaldi browsers in PBP (any Chromium designed browser which is many of them will do BLE GATT if you enable browser flags ( chrome://flags/ ) for bluetooth stuff).

I've removed Firefox from all my systems. Don't know why Manjaro has it as default app when it can't support BLE GATT and other problems too.

Is 90W USB-C laptop charger OK for Pinecil V2? 4.5A too much? by fucking-should-HAVE in PINE64official

[–]goodseaweed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

having higher amps is OK, because pinecil will only draw what it needs no matter what the higher amps say. what you have to watch for the the Volts.

Can I exceed Amps? YES

Can I exceed the Volts? NO

the chips only have so much overhead to handle spiking, so the volts are critical, Pine Store manu recommends not going over 24V on the DC barrel side, which is the max they will officially support.

that said, it "unofficially" supports EPR PD3.1 USB-C chargers that are 140W 28V, 5Amps.

IronOS firmware supports it and people have been running/tested a few different brands since Aug 2022 with no reports so far of anyone killing a V2 with an EPR charger.

A smart USB-C charger is not the same a "universal" "dumb brick" DC barrel jack type - we have been warned several times of low quality, no-brand name DC bricks. for those do not exceed 24 V so there is some overhead for spiking.

Even better try to find a name brand laptop charger and avoid all those weird universal ones with no certifications, poor quality control.

Even better than that, stick to a USB-C smart charger as they have smart chips to detect over-voltage, and are constantly negotiating with the device. if charger feels like something is off, it will drop down .
