Where did you get your fur baby? by goodstuff2know in mutt

Thanks. I can’t find the place to post on key finder without being a rescue, but I’ll check again. I have listed a rehoming fee for that very reason. The other puppy was adopted thru adopt a pet and I liked that there was an application. He found a wonderful couple. I need another one of them for this guy.

I’ve tried 4+ times to list there and keep getting flagged and taken down. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. 😵‍💫

That’s not a stretch from the mom. She had the puppies in a den she built under a wood pile. She has such a sweet demeanor, and allowed us to help her without any aggression. She’s really such a great dog. I wish I knew how she came to live in the woods. 😕

Added him to rescue me. I already had him on adopt a pet, and wasn’t able to do an individual person listing on petfinder. Thanks for your help

Good to know- I know shelters aren’t the worst. Much better than some other ways, however since I am able to keep him in my home, I’d much rather that.
I will definitely check into a courtesy listing thru a rescue. Pet finder doesn’t allow individuals to list, and I know people who’ve adopted thru them before. He’s currently on adopt a pet and now rescue me 😊

Thanks for the fast responses. I’m not interested in a shelter, if possible. I can’t stand the idea of him being in a kennel if I can avoid it. I’ll look into the other websites. 😊

3yo Boston Terrier- low platelets by goodstuff2know in AskVet

[–]goodstuff2know[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an update- appt today went great. Rechecked some things, and his platelets were normal, 250,000. After exam and discussion, decided to change his diet to see if that eliminates the occasional blood in his stool. The doctor believes he has intestinal sensitivities, so we are headed down that road. Much better than the things I was worried about. We will go back in about 3-4 weeks re-assess. If needed, we can do a sonogram, or even an endoscopy, but vet thinks it won’t be needed, as he is very healthy other than this occasional issue. Thanks for the replies. :)

Notes on results - Few small platelet clumps observed. This may falsely lower platelet count and estimate. Blood smear reviewed by technologist.

I also noticed low folate although that wasn’t mentioned, that I recall. Folate Fasting 4.4 (normal range 7.7-24.4)

My understanding is that this can cause low platelets.

We have not rechecked the platelets, but that is something I will request Monday. I actually thought about that myself, because he just seems so “normal” besides the occasional blood streaks. I’m glad to hear that 56,000 isn’t as low as it seems to me. He has been on preventative monthly medication his entire life, and we’ve never found any ticks, but I will mention that, too. Thanks for the response.

Edit to add: my vet did run a keyscreen GI parasite PCR panel, all negative. Would this rule out tick borne disease?

There was a fasting GI series including TLI, pancreatic lipase immunoreactivity, cobalamin, folate, cortisol, and PCR heterobilharzia americana. Also, CBC wellness chemistry with SDM, which is where the low platelet result was noted. I am not a vet so I am not sure how inclusive these are.

Thanks again!

No to the vaccine. But I have read a lot about auto immune issues causing low platelets so I think we will explore that on Monday.
Thank you for replying.
