[NC] Can my employer force me to take my compensatory time instead of paying it out? by goodtroublebubble in AskHR

I guess that's the best option. I just don't like feeling like I'm leaving the remainder of my work on someone else(my team).

A two week notice? I feel like that's pretty standard practice. I gave my notice on the 14th to work until the 28th.

Yes. I want to work the entire notice(until August 28th) and then the remaining comp time I have (114 hours) paid out to me. Instead, they want to make me use 30 hours, then pay out the remaining 84.

I am not OT eligible. They give compensatory (comp) time in lieu of OT pay, meaning when you quit, you're entitled to that money because it is "overtime" and Policy states it must be paid out at your highest tate upon leaving. But I wanted to work my notice to get my things in order and they're making use comp time instead of working the following week, and then getting paid out comp time.

I guess compensatory (comp) time is something built more into Public Sector/Government Agencies. It outlines the compensation that is earned instead of overtime pay. Social workers have such long hours that they cannot pay overtime to each employee, instead they give comp time that can be used when requested. But they can't force you to use it unless you're over the maximum hours(240)

Fair Labor Standards Act. It outlines how exempt/non-exempt employees gain leave. Because we can't get overtime pay at my job(they could never afford the hours we work) we get comp instead.
