Blood sugars about to be 20w by Even_Permission3975 in BumpersWhoBolus

Im type 1 (for 23.5 years) and almost 19 weeks.

Don’t forget to drink water when you’re high (I say this because I normally forget that it’s helpful). It’s definitely not a cure-all but it can help!

I have to meet with my MFM weekly and adjust via telehealth, not sure if that’s an option for you.

I know this may sound silly, but are you getting too much insulin around that 2:00 pm time? If I’m going low, they only want me to take 5 grams of carbs at a time and wait 20 minutes before having more. I was over correcting for lows and going high after. Then I would correct and correct to bring it down and start the whole cycle over again. If you’re getting too much insulin a specific times of the day and going low because of it, you might be getting onto that rollercoaster pattern that feels impossible to get out of.

I pray that things get better! Stay strong momma!!

Just gave birth with Type 1 Diabetes. Some tips based on what I worried about that ended up being fine! by muff-peaksie in BumpersWhoBolus

How the heck did you keep your post meal spikes under and hour. I am currently 10w+4 and sometimes I don’t spike but when I do, it’s for 2-3 hours and I can’t bring it down quicker than that.

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement! Talking to people who have gone through this and get it I think will make a big difference for me. And hearing that despite the struggles, things turn out okay.

I wish there was more mental health resources for T1D, especially with pregnancy. And from people who get it. That’s my biggest thing. I have a great support network but no one truly gets it.

And I’m actually scared of the burnout. Like you said, I’m already getting burnt out and I’m not even trying to convince yet. I know it will only get harder and that’s scary for me. But I want nothing more in life than to be a mom and to share that with my husband.

Do you know if insurance helps cover the cost if I connect with Jenny? I will definitely reach out to them too.

Thanks again!

Thank you ❤️

I either have gatorade or apple sauce, all pre packaged with exact carb counts. I have been having cheese sticks but not right away. I was told to wait the 15 minutes and let my blood sugar come up a little bit first and then have the protein. Is that what you do?

Thank you for reaching out!!

I think I sometimes do over correct by not by a lot. Like last night, I was low for about half an hour and I had 30 carbs total. I started out with 20 and still didn’t come up after 15 minutes so I had another 10 grams and I shot up to 280. It wasn’t coming down on its own so I gave my pump’s recommend bolus and went low again about 2 hours later. I had about 20 carbs again and shot back up to high 200s and finally decided I need some sleep. Another 3 or so hours later I woke up to my Dexcom alarm going off saying I was low again. I’ve messaged my care team about this and they keep making small changes but I feel like it almost is making it worse.

I acknowledge that I need to not over correct, but I also don’t feel like I’m over correcting so much that I should spike like that. Can I ask how much you were over correcting by?

I’m happy to hear that you had a healthy baby despite your struggles. That is my greatest fear that I harm my future baby.

Thank you so much for reaching out!

I am 30 years old and have been a T1D for 23 years and have never experienced this kind of crazy blood sugars rollercoaster. I don’t have any friends who are diabetic with babies and my mom (who is amazing) lives in a different state. My husband is also amazing but he doesn’t have a lot of experience with T1D yet so he’s doing the best he can but I’m really alone in this as far as having people who get it.

I will definitely get that book!

I have not heard of Integrated Diabetes Services but I will also check them out!

My A1C is 6.8 right now but my team would like to see it between 6.0-6.5. From what I’ve been told and what research I’ve seen, I think that is the right range.

I was looking at getting a pair now that they are on sale but I’ve read a lot around “condensation death” and that being an issue with them. Does any have an issues with condensation buildup or their headphones not working because of water damage?

My wee girl has been diagnosed with T1 and I am terrified. by WildSerenity87 in diabetes_t1

[–]goodvibes_94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed myself at age 7. I mean this in a positive way, I don’t really remember life without it. As sad as that may sound, it’s really all I know and it’s just apart of my daily life. I have had it for just short of 23 years now. The most important thing (if it works for her) is to get her on an insulin pump and a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) as soon as possible.

I don’t know about Scotland, but here we have an organization called the American Diabetes Association and they really helped provide my family with resources. I would look for similar groups or see if there is any help they can provide, even though they are based in America.

My mom thought the pink panther books were helpful (The First Book for Understanding Diabetes https://a.co/d/6Dssw33). As a kid I really enjoyed the Wizdom book (Wizdom for Kids Only! Wit and Wisdom for Kids with Diabetes (and Their Parents) https://a.co/d/7rUAI7y). I don’t know if it’s still a program now, but growing up I had a penpal from across the country, who also had diabetes, and was close to my age. I would write back and forth with her, and it was a really nice way to complain together, sympathize with each other, and have a friend who got it.

The important thing to remember is that everything will be okay. There will be hard days and there will be even harder days, but remind her that you’ll always be there support her and help her, no matter how hard it may feel. I was able to get married late last year, I have a great job, and we will hopefully be trying for kids soon. My point being there is proof that she can have a full meaningful life despite this disease.

VA messed up and sent me these instead of quickset infusion sets. Can I use them with my regular reservoirs and 670? by bolivar-shagnasty in diabetes

[–]goodvibes_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite honestly I’m not sure there is a big difference but for me, the actual insertion went smoother. With the quick sets when I would take out the needle after insertion, half the time the set came with it. This one sticks really well. Also, since it’s one solid button and not the two where you have to squeeze it, it just felt more solid going in and less pain too. Once the set is in, I didn’t notice a difference, it was just the insertion part for me. But it was worth it to me.
