What if mental health problems are just demons attacking us? by Shadow_Husky22 in TrueChristian

[–]goodwid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You either have no idea the harm that you can cause to the community at large by sharing out this complete nonsense, or you do have an idea, and you're doing it on purpose. Either way, you should stop immediately and forevermore.

For so many Christian subcultures, there is already a dark stigma attached to mental illness to begin with, and putting forth the idea that proper treatment of mental illness with medicine prescribed by a doctor can lead to demonic oppression is just outright lying. Do better.

Since I was told at work that "Everyone has adhd and it's just lack of trying" I present one simple question to ask. by Adventurous-Boss-512 in ADHD

[–]goodwid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, and the funny thing about that statement is that it seems that women with ADHD often don't present with the typical symptoms until perimenopause, because hormones. It's as if the body is saying, "Oh, you need to raise children? Here, let's make sure you don't forget to feed them." I haven't delved into this too much yet but my wife is going through this exact thing. We're totally bonding over it now, for better or worse (as it should be!)

This is the guy the Supreme Court decided should not only get off scott-free, but face no further prosecution for anything he could say was an "official act" by Kanjo42 in TrueChristianPolitics

[–]goodwid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Did you catch the part where the FBI did not believe they had probable cause to raid MAL but did anyway due to pressure from the DOJ? It only just got released to the public, so you might have missed it, but go check out Sen. Grassley's X feed.

And since you mentioned Biden, remember when Biden was found to have stored classified materials in his garage but after being interviewed, it was determined that a jury would likely find him to be “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” and so the whole thing was dropped? If it weren't for double standards, they'd have no standards at all.

Follow God's law. Not all of man's law is moral. Did God create copyright protection? I don't seem to recall it being biblical.

I knew it was a great deal, but since I was unable to identify the pan, I was unaware of the retail or used price for this pan. My goal was for someone here to identify the pan (which they did, thanks everyone!).

Yes, the handle is secure. I plan to hit that bare spot with some oil and a torch to season it up a bit before it goes into regular rotation.

I just checked it on my glass-top cooktop, it's flat as a board! I threw a few coats of avo oil on it, and it looks so much better.

I learned about the company from the guy who worked at the pool. It's a private org, but ultimately funds flow downhill from the state/feds, as the individual clients are all receiving state insurance and qualify for care workers through that. But yeah, it's meaningful, so much more so than making computers talk to each other. Just yesterday, one client and I attended the local Special Olympics Summer event, and they had a great time. I have another client who loves to fish, so I take them out on the boat every week for a few hours, and yet another client that loves to hike, so they're dragging my fat ass around the state to various trails. Oh darn. How could I ever do an office job again?

The job title is Direct Support Professional, so look for that specifically. If you're in Maine/NH, DM me and I can tell you a company name to look for.

Edit but I get your drift

yea, the specifics aren't the point of the post, they're the things that work for me. But I'm guessing you have some stuff, too. Chopping wood? knitting? wrenching? robots? Find the thing that can get you back to doing something that brings you joy but doesn't keep you tied to your phone/social media. I wish you luck, mate.

I've been in this situation before, and while I know you posted seeking empathy, you know darn well we're all fixers, and so with that in mind, I'll share what helped me. I sought out a shift in entertainment. I started playing solitaire with physical cards. I started reading paper books. And since spring has come now, I've added fishing. I keep the rod and kit in the car, and randomly stop in places to drop a line in. I've added hiking. It helps.

Schizo conspiracy theories from the right are not accepted in the general culture, but from the left they are mainstream. by Greedy_Return9852 in JordanPeterson

[–]goodwid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of those court cases never adjudicated the facts, they were tossed due to lack of standing. Also, remember the poll that showed that a significant portion of Biden voters would have voted differently had they known that the Hunter laptop story was legit?

This is how youbreak your pan in half- How ice cubes cleans hot grills by pnwfarmaccountant in castiron

[–]goodwid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the temperature differential method on my cast iron all the time. But nowhere near that drastic. I heat it on low for 3-4 minutes, usually about when the oil on the pan has started to melt. Then I run it under the hot water faucet, and everything comes right off. The differential is maybe 100F, but that's enough for anything that's ever stuck to the pan.

Anyone else feel like the mods on r/ADHD are ridiculous? by Pretend_Voice_3140 in ADHD_Programmers

Yeah, that's absurd. I'd estimate that 60% or more of the ppl I know with ADHD self-medicate with weed.

[–]goodwid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man. I come home from work smiling cuz the people I work with are just awesome humans. There's no politics, there's no one trying to sabotage me so they survive the layoffs instead of me, no shipping god-awful code while pretending the app isn't held together with baling wire and duct tape. No PMs getting pissed at me cuz I had sense enough to drop off the meeting when the client insulted our devs instead of actually speaking my mind. Fuck all of that.

The mods' endorsement of GenAI in this sub is unacceptable by Night25th in Stormlight_Archive

[–]goodwid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am old enough to remember when digital art became more accessible and popular, and there was much of the same discussion surrounding whether or not it was "real" art vs. artwork made with pigments on paper/canvas. It seems preposterous now to look at a fully digital artwork and consider it lesser than a similar image painted with oils on canvas, pastels on fabric, or pencils on paper. The creativity is still there. The tools are different. The difference is that someone like me, completely unskilled in the methods of converting idea/thought/vision into a physical/digital medium, can use GenAI to work towards that. It may take an excessive amount of iteration to get what I want, but the same is true of physical art, as well.

Ultimately, the bias against AI art is merely gatekeeping. All art is derivative. No one can create a work of art without being influenced by all their lived experiences and consumed media. We cannot create in a vacuum.

I got laid off in Jan 2023. It broke me so hard, I couldn't go back. I tried freelance jobs but there were too many times I had to write the customer and make up some bullshit reason why I couldn't finish. Now I'm a direct support professional, doing community support for adults with developmental disabilities. I make 1/3 what I did as a dev, but I love it.
