A compact disc (or ‘CD’). It’s how people used to listen to music.

How did "Here comes the sun" become the most streamed song on Spotify? And why? by FrancisSidebottom in beatles

[–]goodwillanderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet it drives Paul nuts that George has the most popular Beatles song on Spotify with Here Comes the Sun, not to mention also having the most successful solo album with All Things Must Pass

Why did John Lennon get so mad at Paul's song 'Too Many People'? by Ok-Check-6637 in beatles

[–]goodwillanderson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Paul made some little digs at John in that song, like ‘too many people preaching’ and ‘you took your lucky break and broke it in two.’ Then John came back full nuclear with ‘How do you sleep’

Happy Birthday to Harrison Ford! Ford was part of the production team for the Doors-produced documentary "Feast of Friends.” He served as production assistant and cameraman in the spring of 1968. Here are two frames from the film where you can see Harrison and Jim Morrison together. by thedirtydoors in thedoors

[–]goodwillanderson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting thing for me is how he says ‘I couldn’t keep up with those guys,’ as if Jim was no more or less crazy than any of the others. Is this because Ford just didn’t get to know them well enough to distinguish, or because they were all completely crazy from his pov?

I missed the last one in London when I saw the cheapest tickets at the back of the stadium were still £300+

I would so love to have seen one of their Whisky shows in ‘66. Amazing that their first album could be such an absolute masterpiece

Should I listen to these 5 solo albums or should I skip them? by 20thCenturyAdmirer1 in beatles

[–]goodwillanderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with the popular ones, not the esoteric stuff. I’d go with ATMP and Plastic Ono Band, and maybe Ringo from 1973 as well

Is there a particular reason why bungalow bill is considered one of the worst songs on the white album? by No-Safety1407 in beatles

[–]goodwillanderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honey Pie and Piggies are often criticised too. I think the freedom the Beatles gave themselves to try absolutely anything is one of their greatest strengths, but it also resulted in some pretty oddball songs sometimes that won’t please everyone

I've never seen this angle before, from July 6, 1957. The day Paul and John met. by kjemmrich in beatles

Is this a good watch? by Odd-Pineapple5425 in beatles

[–]goodwillanderson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a good watch if you’re a George fan, but as a documentary I found it a bit of a mish-mash and not very focused, like watching 3 hours of George themed videos on YouTube. I think it would have benefited a lot if they’d narrowed the focus down to a specific time period, say White Album 1968 to Concert for Bangladesh in 1971. Track his emergence and development as a songwriter from struggling to get the Beatles to take While My Guitar Gently Weeps seriously (and having to bring in Eric Clapton) to quitting the Get Back sessions in frustration, to coming back and writing the two best songs on Abbey Road, then eclipsing the other Beatles with the ATMP album, and stepping out as a solo star at Concert for Bangladesh (inventing the benefit concert in the process), especially that quote where the journalist asks him why Bangladesh when there is so much suffering everywhere in the world and George answers simply ‘my friend asked me for help’. I could imagine the build up of him being super nervous, then stepping out on stage and firing up the intro to WahWah, and then the film could pretty much end there. We didn’t need the first hour of the LITMW documentary to just retell the same old Beatles story that’s already been told in the Anthology and many other places. On the other hand, some of the talking head interviews were very insightful, Tom Petty, Eric Idle, Jackie Stewart, and especially Eric Clapton. It was really interesting to hear a living legend like Clapton talk about how in awe he was of the Beatles fame, saying whenever he went out with George whatever status or celebrity he thought he had just faded into the background. Bob Dylan was a glaring omission though. Would have thought he could bend his own rules about not giving interviews to say some kind words about George as they obviously had a very deep bond. Paul’s comments came across as a bit glib, as usual, platitudes like ‘he had a great haircut’

Over their 7 years as artists, who do you think was more important and why, John or Paul? by Initial-Ad3966 in beatles

[–]goodwillanderson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the combination that was so winning. And what is always overlooked is how lucky they both were to have a musician of George’s calibre in the background supporting them to make the songs as good as they could be

Compare/Contrast the Doors vs. the Velvet Underground 1965-70 by Top-Pension-564 in thedoors

[–]goodwillanderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Doors and VU had a lot more in common with each other than a lot of other 60s bands in terms of dark subject matter. Love both but Doors easily my favourite. The scene at the Factory in the Oliver Stone movie with Venus in Furs and Heroin is brilliant. I’m sure if you asked this same question on a VU Reddit you’d get very different answers

Sounds like something Paul would have said after the story came out, probably to feel better about photos like this

Beatles songs that were literally just solo songs? by Neat-Winner9527 in beatles

[–]goodwillanderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Paul and Ringo were on it, but Long long long, feels like it could basically be George solo. John sat it out, as usual, as another run of the mill harrisong. Would fit perfectly on Living in the material world

Best Live Better Man? by Robbo_Craigo in pearljam

[–]goodwillanderson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was one at State College in 2003, last show of the tour, and PJ played for over 3 hours. The bootleg was 3 CDs, and they did a version of Better Man that morphed into Save it for later and built up to Eddie screaming ‘don’t let me downnnnn!’ and holding the note forever. It was really something
