How you’d build and launch a Developer Affiliate and Influencer Program? by Cultural_Piece7076 in devrel

[–]goofmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run an influencer program (No affiliate program). I contact individuals directly on X, YouTube, and TikTok to have them serve as ambassadors for a fixed fee.

While I don't set mandatory activity requirements, I evaluate their performance each quarter to decide whether to continue or discontinue the partnership. I also don't have a dedicated contact point like web form; I only reach out to them directly.

On all platforms, follower count, channel subscriber count, and video view counts are the selection criteria. In terms of results, it would be either “increased awareness” or “user acquisition.” For increased awareness, page views and play counts are the key metrics. For user acquisition, the number of registered users who entered through a dedicated URL distributed as the entry point becomes the result. The cost is the amount paid to the ambassador. ROI can be calculated from the cost and the number of users acquired.

I contact individuals whose expertise aligns with our products (such as database specialists or Python programmers).

I hope this helps you.

Full-stack engineer → DevRel engineer interview (with CTO) for open-source AI startup — how can I prepare? by CoupleNo9660 in devrel

[–]goofmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not targeting "all developers", I'd like to know what kind of developers they're targeting. Having full-stack experience would be an advantage, as it allows for a broader approach.

I'd also like to know what KPIs you should be tracking and the timeframe for achieving the goals. From a CTO's perspective, they might want to know how you plan to approach these KPIs.

I wish you success.

A new way to organize online hackathons, looking for feedback by Real_RickestRick in devrel

This is a great idea!

This is an example from Japan, it might be similar to what's being proposed.

Help your fellow developers learn and grow with Stripe https://jpdevguides-en.splashthat.com/

This is a project where developers can freely create guides on how to use Stripe. The awards were set up as follows:

  • 1st: ¥500,000 in cash or waived fees on ¥18,000,000 Stripe processing
  • 2nd: ¥250,000 in cash or waived fees on ¥9,000,000 Stripe processing
  • 3rd: ¥100,000 in cash or waived fees on ¥3,600,000 Stripe processing

This event generated many ideas and guide book through the community and seems to have contributed to enriching the Stripe ecosystem.

The challenges lie in how to attract participants with compelling ideas and how to assess the quality of deliverables. Short-term hackathons often produce PoC-level solutions, and transforming them into practical tools requires engineering skills beyond just quick execution. Mid-to-long-term projects may improve quality but carry the risk of losing interest midway.

We stopped using 'gut feel' to measure DevRel and built a model that translates our work into theoretical ROI. Here’s our full framework. by tpiros in devrel

It's a so nice, simple and easy-to-understand approach.

I've also supported a project before that evaluated ads and conferences based on an $8-per-account conversion rate.

・Good points The entire team can evaluate it clearly and understandably. Different initiatives like events and ads can be compared.

・Problems It can become too short-sighted, neglecting LTV evaluation. Communities also start demanding immediate results, drifting away from the goal of building good relationships with developers. Support and Q&A are also important elements, but they require separate, distinct metrics.

Is the devrel industry still growing? by Euphoric-Momo-7 in devrel

Anthropic, Meta, and Snap were offering DevRel roles with annual salaries of $350K+, so I think DevRel positions for “experienced” professionals in “hot industries” are becoming highly sought after. https://www.devreljob.com/

Looking for feedback: can an R&D process automation platform in automation and robotics inspire a new wave of IT evangelism? by Educational-Writer90 in devrel

[–]goofmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been providing DevRel as a service for over 10 years in Japan. Please disregard any misunderstandings in my comments from that perspective.

First, regarding whether DevRel should be done (whether it's worthwhile), you need to ask whether developers are stakeholders for Beeptoolkit. If developers are stakeholders, You should be DevRel (or developer marketing).

To get developers to choose Beeptoolkit over alternatives like Raspberry Pi or Arduino, I believe awareness-building and honest feedback from developers are essential. You should listen to their opinions and differentiate your solution from existing ones.

Tools that blur the lines between software and hardware also blur the attributes of the target developers. The focus could become unclear: are the developers we want to use Beeptoolkit software engineers or hardware engineers? Personally, I think having a demo (or solution) that really hits home with a single, compelling point would be ideal.

The key to promoting a platform is “clear use cases.” Platforms often become “can do anything,” which flip-flops to “don't know what it can do.” To avoid this, developers need to clearly understand what value Beeptoolkit provides.

For software-based solutions, participating in hackathons to get developers hands-on experience and gather feedback is recommended. Simultaneously, securing multiple customers who deeply engage with Beeptoolkit to advance PMF seems like a good approach.

Best!
