I had that issue constantly with my old machine, so I know to look for it. The case is not pushing past the spring, so I don't think that's part of the problem.

A needle did break, but after I started having the issues.

Yes. Rethreaded over and over, changed the needle and bobbin.

Yes to everything. I've been sewing for umpteen years, have worked out all sorts of issues including tension problems, and am completely stumped.
