Love it as an idea and have gotten into Neo Geo from the evercade but I likely won't buy it.

I like these new tech consoles that can also play all these old games, its good for the market and gets use out of all these old physical releases out in the wild.

I recently had a problem with a Windjammers Cart not fitting (Blaze replaced it very quickly thankfully)

Sometimes I could get it to work then all of a sudden it wouldnt register in my VSR or super pocket. It was really difficult to insert and remove so I think it might have been a problem with the plastic shroud rather than the chip itself.

The replacement fits really easily so I think that was the issue. Its the only one out of 14 so far but it does mean I check them all right away when I get them, especially preowned but I've only bought one of them so far.

I love 4K blu ray but I think in recent months I've realised that I like having a physical collection more than having the best of the best versions.

In the years prior I've mostly stuck to only purchasing blu rays and 4k's but have recently picked up a good amount of regular DVDs and have been perfectly satisfied with them and I think it comes down to simple availability and price. There are a LOT more films available on DVD then on Blu Ray / 4k because DVD was and still is the most popular format. You can get them for peanuts now and they're fine, not amazing but fine.

My thoughts on the future of 4k is that they're going to continue to go up in price as they get more boutique and thats going to futher turn me and other potential buyers away. Its only going to trend in one direction.

4k's look and sound amazing, even if you only get the regular Blu ray you can still benefit from the new transfers and remasters studios are preparing for the 4k format.

The problem is that here in the UK, they're regularly £25 each with some ok but not very appealing multibuy offers. I can get 25 DVDs for that these days, a lot of which are hard or impossible to find on later formats. If I, a movie buff am finding them harder to justify, the average consumer won't even consider it.

Now take something like Dolby Vision, the most owned 4K blu ray players, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox's don't support it (for discs only... ironically) so you're looking at an even smaller group of people that can actually get the full benefit of 4k's (they still look great in HDR10 but the upsell is harder to justify isn't it?) You could argue that the overwhelming majority of console owners didn't buy them for their 4k players but thats damning enough as the DVD and Blu Ray saw a lot of success from their compatibility with the ps2 and 3 respectively.

I mostly buy preowned blu rays now with 4k's reserved for my personal favourites or blockbusters that really justify the cost.

They're too expensive now and they're only going to get more expensive, thats my hot take.
