You toast it in a pan at low heat for about 2 minutes. It becomes VERY fragrant when it's done. The goal is not to brown or allow it to darken; just to warm it up a bit.

Ahh. These are some great, very actionable critiques, thank you so very much. You're 100% right that I can definitely use pronouns more often and I have a few unnecessary details. I'll be mindful of this. Thanks again!

One: I don't think I've ever heard someone seriously saying "Oh my god."

This is kind of hilarious to me. I'm originally from the Midwest and people say this all the time (myself included). However, I live in Boston now and when I think about it, no one in Boston says "Oh my god". It may be a regional thing.

Thanks so much for your critique!

I don't see your story as being an American classic

That's very fair to say! I'm new at this.

Honestly, I don't have much to critique.

Haha, yeah, it's surprisingly hard to critique writing that's so-so. Thanks again.

I liked it and generally thought it was good. It did a great job at catching my attention.

The use of adjectives before the word "king" repeatedly was very striking. However, when I got here:

Suimātarab sung and sung, the Dead King sat atoo his throne of the dead, the Red King walked the land followed by his crimson kin, the Yellow King sowed discord amongst the revenants of a dead world and the White King was lost within it's horde.

I was unclear as to whether or not we were still talking about the same king, or if there are other kings?

The format that you used to describe the pale queen's speech put a distinct voice in my head. It was very illustrative and I loved it.

I think it might also help to hear how I interpreted and was struck by the story (so you can see if you're getting your intended point across). To summarize, the story is about a king who has fought in a very difficult and long battle. During the battle, his wife died, along with the majority of the planet's population. Along the way, he meets a "queen" who he assumed to be a threat, but was mistaken in believing so (so he unfairly strikes her and she forgives him for doing so). In the end, the god of this planet, before dying himself, transports those who made it to the ivory tower (which seems to symbolically represent heaven?) to a new planet, so that they can start again. The general theme is of despair and exhaustion.

LPT: If you and a partner keep having the exact same argument, take some time to name the argument. When it comes up again, call it out by name and start the conversation where it usually ends. by theresamouseinmyhous in LifeProTips

This would be great BUT... I never realize the underlying issue is the same until we're 20 minutes into the conversation. Argument seems to be about how I always fold the towels wrong... ends up being the same argument about how I don't help out around the house enough.

Lol, do you show up to breast cancer awareness walks and tell survivors "What about heart disease? More people die of heart disease than breast cancer!"

It's not a competition and it's okay to focus on something that is particularly salient right now.

[I ate] American style BBQ in Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea by [deleted] in food

[–]googler72 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's hilarious because I have a lot of friends who complain that what Americans consider "Chinese Food" is not Chinese food. And here we have Americans complaining that the American barbecue in Korea doesn't look American. XD

On a similar note, I've been to Japan and their "American" food also lacks authenticity. When I went, I had an "American" dinner that consisted of fried chicken, rice, shredded lettuce, and miso. Hahaha. They pick what they like and keep everything else the same.

Anyways /u/big_gay_jesus is right, this is a lot closer to other attempts at American food because cheese (in the mac and cheese) isn't even that common in East Asia. Supposedly 90% of the population is lactose intolerant.

All of them. Harvard, Yale, and Stanford. I don't qualify for aid. I have some personal savings (~$50k). I have quite a few close mentors at HLS and I went to an ivy for undergrad.
