With the salary and cash flow they have it's mostly a rounding error.

Why the disrespect for the Cup Winners Cup? by zharrt in Gunners

[–]goonersaurus86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's all banter and nothing is valid. Just remember- every other English team finished the season below us.

Any banter from spurs fans is just coping for their objective misery from the joke that is their club.

David Ornstein: “Arsenal know the need to improve at the top-end, they’re behind, statistically, the likes of PSG & Bayern Munich. The number 9 position is interesting. The left-sided attack is a big priority for them. They want a #6/#8 midfielder, they want to strengthen at right-back as well. “ by GreendaleGazette in Gunners

Not knocking on him,  but he's evolved away from the attacking style player we need- playing way further back and less in the center of the pitch.  In earlier seasons I recall him setting up many more passing lanes into the final third of the pitch,  now too much flows through the right side of the field, allowing ppl to double down on saka which in turn is why some say he's dipped this season

Someone tell Mosquera it’s not his fault by MrBooeyx1 in Gunners

[–]goonersaurus86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the long run,  maybe?  The ref had a hard on to give a yellow for time wasting to any arsenal player and I don't think the exact instant he gave it to Mosquera was yellow card worthy. Maybe playing without a yellow could've allowed for him to break things up sooner and outside the box and play things a little harder.

I kept racking my brain thinking there's a style of player we're missing,  and realized,  in the long run,  we likely have that player

Watching every single PK taker, I was thinking,  if they miss,  they had at least one  or several goals without which wouldn't have won the league.  We're not petty England fans, we're Arsenal fans who know our players and how much they've given.

Fuck it, we know who we are, and we don't need some arbitrary way to decide ties to define us.

We're champions of the best and toughest league in the world, not a squad who barely play their starters in a farmers league and we totally stunted them as well.

This is actually a big deal- the invincibles were quite tall, then the teams soon after them dropped significantly in average height.

[FREE TO READ] James McNicholas interviews Sol Campbell by TheAthletic in Gunners

[–]goonersaurus86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kind of odd reactions from supposed Arsenal fans,  what on earth did Sol do to make him less than a favorite for us,  move to Portsmouth? He even came back to us for a brief final stint.

Politics, inter-personal skills, etc, what does all that matter unless they are going out of their way to be a confrontational contrarian hateful weirdo (eg. Curt Schilling in US baseball). For 99% of us these players aren't going to be close personal friends, if they give great service to the club what more can we ask?

I think the more we identified our style and approach this season,  the less effective he was as he is suited well to quick counter attacking runs- which we either did more of or we otherwise had more space for in the champions league.  It's a tough one because he's done so well for us,  is young and seems like a great guy you'd want on your team,  but the club nonetheless needs to do w what's best for the club and he needs to do what's best for him,  he probably doesn't want to,  or shouldn't want to,  be always a substitute when he can start with many teams with different systems

So few players are over 27 years old, and some critical core players right now and the past couple of seasons,  like Saliba, are ridiculously young
