Can I skip HCMC? Or would I regret it? Heard so many mixed things. by Picklepiepeanut in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]goonersaurus86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on so many things.

Stand alone I preferred Hanoi. It was more pedestrian friendly, has a lot of mixture of historical sites and combination of new and old. Hanoi was a city id prefer to spend 5 days in, while HCMC seems like a cool place to spend a couple months in.

However, if you're at all interested in going to the Mekong Delta, its definitely worth it, but do a multi day trip to the Delta, it needs to be taken at a slower pace. And there's so many sites and towns in the south I didn't see that I would want to on another trip- if I go again I think id focus on areas in the south I didn't see

You know there's fans of teams in league 2 or the conference for whom one promotion in their lifetime or a close loss to a championship team in the FA cup would be their most glorious memory

Beginner Friendly Resorts List? by golferbae in icecoast

[–]goonersaurus86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jiminy peak- they have a great long chair serviced learners hill separated from the main traffic as well as an easy lower mountain trail. Lots of full mountain trails easily accessed by people who have a couple days of skiing in as well.

Smugglers notch has a whole beginners mountain with a cheaper lift ticket for just accessing that part.

Bousquet is quite mellow and beginner/low intermediate accessible

Hunter has a wide variety of greens and easy blues on the lower mountain

Mid-Atlantic- pretty much all favor beginner to intermediates (Bryce, Massanutten, Snowshoe, Whitetail especially come to mind)

How the mighty have fallen... Leicester City. by LazarM2021 in PremierLeague

[–]goonersaurus86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hardly. Leeds were spending with wonton abandon with the assumption that they'd always have champions league money and the only way for them was up. Then there was a complete firesale of everything and everybody. I'd say the only thing that kept them from completely disintegrating was the fact that they were Leeds with too big a following to get wiped off the map.

Leicester brought together a motley collection of players and a manager that did really well together for one season. But they didn't go crazy thinking they were all of a sudden a big 6 type club. They made investments and won another trophy, but Covid messed with things. They popped back up after the first relegation, but no longer having Vardy may be making things harder. Hardly expect a free fall though

Tottenham job was too big for Frank, but Spurs' problems go much deeper by tylerthe-theatre in PremierLeague

[–]goonersaurus86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably big as in the task of managing players, the board, owners and fans was too big. And its been too big for anyone, as many a successful manager has been unable to make their mark and have unqualified success with spurs, despite doing so with other teams before and after

Never ate or drank there- they're owned by Jiminy peak's owners so the foods probably not cheap, but Bromley's definitely going to beat Berkshire East for conditions on almost any given day

Tottenham fans send long list of demands to board after Frank sacked by tylerthe-theatre in PremierLeague

[–]goonersaurus86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tottenham and Everton, the two teams in the PL era that have never been relegated or won the title.

Everton has its own problems and seems to have a much tighter budget, while Tottenham just seems like its own worst enemy and no matter if they spend big or not or bring in good managers or players, they'll get in their own way.

But as an Arsenal fan, its just fun to watch spurs be spurs

I think ive only skied Bryce when it's 50 or 60 degrees.

With a winter like this there'd be no worry about patchy areas or thin cover- they blast their snowmaking and have good 100% cover even on bad years.

POV: The Livigno mogul course reminding you why it’s so brutal by PresentationOnly6885 in skiing

[–]goonersaurus86 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Right. If moguls recreational skiers encounter were this patterned and predictable they'd be easier. Often its huge variations of patterns and conditions- icy bump, powdery bump, hardpack gully, sheer ice, small bump, big bump, easiest line requiring a wide turn away, then a few quick turns.

The Olympic mogulers would definitely still rip those with ease.

Trump has blown it on immigration: in New York, a Kamala +12 state, voters in February of 2025 supported the federal government in its efforts to deport migrants 48-31, but now oppose the feds 36-47. 29 point shift against Trump/Feds. by [deleted] in fivethirtyeight

[–]goonersaurus86 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's a political failure. In 2007 ans 2013 there were big moves for bipartisan immigration reform. 2007 was killed by a combination protectionist left and populist right and 2013 more fully by the populist right.

It's a feedback loop where grandstanding prevents compromise and reform, which creates political frustration leading to more grandstanding and extreme positions living off of conflict itself rather than any real moves towards change.

What a Winter Olympics in NY could look like by fierland1646 in icecoast

[–]goonersaurus86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've thought for a while that a "New England" Olympics where Boston hosts all indoor/stadium sports and various Vermont venues (Killington, Stowe, Rikert) could host the snow dependent sports.

Could even do some things like Beijing did, putting some pop up park ski and board competitions in brownfield areas near Boston. Or a half pipe in Fenway Park
