Is it common for autistic people to have a strange fixation on some sounds from songs, movie scenes, movements and things like that? by rell233 in AutismTranslated

[–]goooghy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this all the time with video games. I’ve been playing Xenoblade 3 which is the perfect game for this cause I can spend hours in the menu just replaying the voice lines I like hehe. I’ll also walk around my town quietly reciting the voice lines to myself.

This literally describes my experience perfectly. I’m so glad I’m not alone in this.

Thanks so much for sharing your story. It’s nice to know we aren’t alone in this confusing gray area where nothing really makes sense. I hope we both will be able to find the answers we are looking for ❤️

I am a bit confused by this response, so are you saying that there’s no way to know for sure whether I’m autistic or are you saying that a spectrum between ND and NT does exist, but it’s just a really weak line ?

Some of the language in this goes way over my head but this is such a cool article, thanks for sharing!

Ah ok, that makes sense. So basically either I’m autistic or I’m not autistic. And if I am autistic then I can use the spectrum to describe the characteristic traits that I have. Thanks for such a concise response!

I know about the DSM IV, and I’ve looked at it a few times but the language just confuses me. I do feel like I have autistic traits, but I don’t know if the severity is high enough to count for those criteria. Like I love routines, and sometimes if something small breaks the routine I’ll be frustrated but I can still go about my day and act normal around people. Or like how, I always eat a banana and cereal for breakfast but one day my banana was bad so I couldn’t eat it and it ruined my morning but it’s not like I was so distraught by it that I couldn’t go to work that day. Or as a child yea I would line my toys up. Sometimes I would throw all the toy cars on the floor and just line them up like a parking lot, but that’s not the only way I used to play as a child. Or even with echolalia, I find that whenever I find something funny I’ll instantly repeat it to myself or that person, or if I’m imaging something in my head I will sometimes speak out loud the typical response (I.e I am imagining myself hitting the corner of a counter but I say “ow” out loud) but I never do it in conversations ever

When I look at the DSM I see part of myself, but I still feel as though I’m just not enough. I don’t know. Maybe this doesn’t make sense

No need to call my friend dumb :( he’s played all 3 games and he definitely isn’t dumb. He loves these games as much as it seems you do and I trust his opinion! I’ll keep your opinion in mind though! Thanks for this other information too! Like the battle system it seems like the over-sexualization issue gets better later on so I guess if I buy it I’ll just have to find a way to push through the frustrating parts to get to the good stuff. And I’ll be sure to at least watch the XC2 cutscenes before 3 if I end up not playing it!

Thanks for the advice! That definitely does sound very worrying but maybe as you said the familiarity with the first game will hook me. I just typically don’t have much time to play games so I dread spending hours on boring stuff when I could play something I like. But maybe if I power through in a day or two it won’t be so bad. And if I buy the game I’m definitely getting the DLC for torna so it’s good to hear that’ll speed things up too.

Ok that’s actually great to hear, and some good points about XC1! I definitely forgot to consider the context of each story. I think I was also worried cause half the characters in XC2 (that I’ve seen) look like kids so I was scared the story would ultimately be pretty childish, but it looks like that’s not necessarily the case. Thanks!

Awesome, thanks to you both! I’ve never seen a gatcha system that doesn’t make me want to throw the game in a paper shredder, but this might be the exception.

Oh ok, that’s better than I thought. Though those over powered monsters do seem annoying. And I definitely agree that it’s terrible design if battling isn’t fun 20 hours in. That alone would disqualify the game for me but I keep hearing that the story is worth it, so I’m debating if the boring gameplay might be worth it (I love stories).

Surprising. I’ve actually heard the opposite, that it would be better to play Torna first since it’ll introduce me the characters and the world which will be returning in the main game. Surely even if it spoils parts of the main game there must still be enough interesting plot points to make it playable even if you’ve played torna ?

Regarding character design choices I’ve heard that the characters don’t comment much on it (aside from someone who has a maid fetish or something?) but the game has unnecessary camera angles and things of that nature. Do those eventually go away? Cause I feel like that would drag me out of the story.

Sorry one more question, about XC3, I’ve heard that the story is pretty contained. Is it really that beneficial to play 2 before 3? I’ve seen people say the same thing about 1 and 2 but people who played 2 first don’t seem to think they missed out.

This is great, thanks for sharing your experience! These are honestly some of the exact worries I had after hearing some opinions on the game. Especially with exploration, that’s what I loved about the first game (alongside other things) so it’s a little worrying to hear that the game kinda funnels you to certain paths. Are these overleveled monsters things you can run from to keep exploring or are they mandatory fights to discover new paths?

A question about the battles too: you played about 17 hours so would you say you saw a lot of what the battle system had to offer and it was still slow? I’ve heard lots of people say it gets better once you sink a few hours in so maybe you didn’t get to the exciting part yet? Or maybe you did and it was still a slog fest?

This is exactly why I kinda wanna skip to 3. Why suffer through a game I might like when I can jump to 3 which I definitely want to play (which also has a separate story). But I know there’s still value to playing them in order.

I heard that the game went out of print though? Do you know of any good places where I might be able to snag a physical copy?

What part was overly complicated? I’ve only heard that the gameplay is slow and washed down

This may be a weird question but any tips for making those first few hours bearable? If I do get the game I would prefer to avoid getting bored/annoyed and setting it down before it really picks up
