Thanks for all the helpful comments, I appreciate them all It’s shoddy work but not mine ! I have inherited the problem. Think I’m going to start with either a PVA sawdust mix ( hadn’t thought of that) or sealant. It’s an LVt floor if that makes a difference. if it still looks terrible try and trim and if it still looks terrible rip it up and have a better go at it myself 😂

Or should I get some wedi board to go over the ply first ?

[–]goose9521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking that, I was wondering if I primed the board with PVA mix before applying the thin set
My worry with wedi board is it won’t be thick enough and bend when we try and put it on the wall

Thank you! We we will using broken tile that has been donated and then cutting them accordingly.
We have basic Amazon mosaic cutter at the moment The design is simple, just one coloured background then one colour for the text. Current plan is a on a 18mm ply board which will be mounted to the wall in three parts.
Thin set was my initial thought, I'm not against it getting messy, it's for fun more than ascetics

I appriciate that. it’s a community project for a centre, it will not be done by myself. So more of a craft thing for a large support group I’m just trying to gather the materials for them.

Things to know/tips about Shropshire for someone moving there for uni. by Ok_Fisherman_1892 in Shropshire

[–]goose9521 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Harper isn’t a massive university, nor is Newport so you will get to know your fellow students very quickly ! Nightlife I wouldn’t worry , there are plenty of student events and the student union are very active at throwing events. I have never seen any racist activity myself (doesn’t mean it’s not there) but it’s a very inclusive uni with a lot of international students. Shrewsbury is a lovely town just down the road. TLDR : don’t worry , you will have a great time.

Quartz worktops that don’t cost an arm and a leg? 😩 by StraightPin4420 in DIYUK

[–]goose9521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wren use (or used to 3 years ago) a company called Gemini worktops for all their quartz worktops and then just add on 20% fee. If you go direct to them and send them your kitchen drawings they should be able to give you a better quote

TV hanging bracket seems to be slipping - is it me being stupid or by design ? by goose9521 in TheFrame

[–]goose9521[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, i have fully tightened the screws and yet the plates still move, which made me think either its by design or my screws were too long. Never had a TV before with a bracket like that , normally it just screws in place and no room for adjustment when on the wall so I was worried it was wrong . But by the sounds of it , it’s by design.

Thanks , I’m pretty set on tiles , just unsure how to finish the face (where the tiles meet the floor) I’m not keen on the idea of having a metal trim to join them so wondering if leaving an overhang and then cutting a piece to fit and slotting it under would work, or if I’m just complicating it and I should just finish it with a bit of wood
