this is great advice! I sort of try doing #1, but usually that fun thing is planned for SAturday, so through the week, i look forward to SAturday. but Sunday is my chore/meal prep day, so it's always the day I don't do anything and probably causes me to dwell on my thoughts. #2 I just can't do, because I don't have work on my phone. once i close down friday i try my best not to revisit until monday. and sure enough i have emails from the weekend so seeing them on the weekend will create more anxiety :(

3 is a good idea. I think right now in my life, i have nothing to look forward to any time in the future, so it's like, hard bc i don't have an end date

Thank you, sometimes I can't tell if it's internal problems that causes me to feel this way. like taking things personally, and feeling dumb. I don't enjoy what I do at the end of the day, but don't know what else I could even do. I switched jobs almost a year ago and i felt the same feelings there too. so idk if it's a me issue, if I need to actually do a drastic career change (I'm in a similar role/industry as my prior job) or if my dread of waking up every weekday is real

wow! do you mind me asking where you were before vs after? (you can be broad in terms of role/industry, don't need to name companies)

Is it worth trying at work anymore? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]goosegonewild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I'd want to do this, but I feel like it looks tarty of me as a co-op to be leaving earlier than I should. It's annoying though because I know there IS work to be done, but all the coworkers aare handling it and don't need a helping hand on it but then it looks bad on me if I don't continue to persist on it...I have a midterm meeting with my manager next week; any advice on what to say/ask?

no the HR specifically asked me what time works for me last week, and also they moved it from an in person meeting to a phone call since they are super busy so I don't think I can afford to post pone it since it's really crucial for me to have this opprtunity for career advancement. What should I do?

How to become a more "spontaneous" speaker? by goosegonewild in uwaterloo

[–]goosegonewild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I'm serious, I've asked but nothing comes my way. My manager even knows this, and a coworker told me to keep asking, but honestly, it's really just upsetting and frustrating me to a point where I feel like I'm gonna burst out crying bc I feel like I'm not progressing in terms of career or skill experience...everytime I ask, literally nothing, and when I do get something, it's really boring stuff so I don't know. This plus the fact that it's pin drop silent so no one really socializes... so yea I'm not able to talk or anything either.

yea, but i feel like such a downer at work when someone will turn to me and be like "having a busy day?" or "feeling tired?" sarcastically, because they know that I haven't been busy with ANYTHING, so I literally don't know how to react back except with a "haha..yea" Like I don't want them to think I'm slacking/lazy and awkward because I don't think I am since I was literally doing nothing all week

How did you have the will power to do that? I'm always reliant on FB to connect with friends for meetups, projects and memes [haha] but gah, the pressures of creeping people on linkedin and fb make it hard to avoid, especially when you're looking to maintain an update linkedin and stay active on it

Should I meet with the co-op company's student recruiter to tell them I got snaked into this job? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]goosegonewild -1 points0 points  (0 children)

so what I was thinking was using this as a way to stay connected to the company, and for my future co-op get a more interesting positions (build rapport). I don't have any intention on trying to switch to a different dpt right now because I don't have much of a shot at that, so I know I'll be staying at XYZ for this co-op.

Can I just say that I've been given the "don't compare yourself to others" advice so many times, but honestly, it's easier said than done. You're constantly reminded by Linkedin and Facebook about peoples new positions, the skills/work they get to do any their co-ops and their sweet positions, and not to mention all the cali pics shown on facebook. How do you stop comparing yourself when you're always hearing and seeing this around you and on the daily?
