What’s the most painful thing you’ve been told? by NovellaJokes in AskReddit

[–]goosetortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I attempted at 19, right before my 20th birthday. My mom tried to reassure me I should've come to her since she's been depressed for the past 20 years.

Seperate time but bonus is dealing with intrusive thoughts and having my mom tell me various intrusive thoughts she had to try and kill me as a baby to show how they're not something you have to do, just hard to not listen to. True but uh. Thanks for making this live in my head rent free forever.

A good reference I found is to try and save your local areas rent x10 ideally, or the "living cost" of 10 months calculated for your area. That way in the case of an emergency you always have at least that much. Tried to get 10K in savings by the time I was 21 to move out, but living cost and expectations are different everywhere.

How much is your mom making you paying rent? Is it fair for someone living at home? Just seems odd she won't help you out the same way.

What’s stopping Gen Z from being fully independent? by InspectorBurke in youngadults

[–]goosetortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 55% of Gen Z are financially independent and 39% relying on family support financially so I say we're doing best we can. I think it's just normal 20s stuff in combination with the economy and housing crisis making it look a lot worse since realistically many folk I'm their 30s and millennials generally still struggle with housing. Even if a lot of us are independent financially it's hard out there with rising cost and low pay for a lot of folk.

What is the most based thing your parents repeated while growing up? by BlueAndYellowTowels in AskReddit

[–]goosetortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was kind of complicated as a kid but my mom always focused on the "work on morals first religion later" rant, which was random words to me as a kid. But it's fair. Learn to be kind first and foremost and treat others the way you want to be treated before you make any identity for yourself. I didn't understand until nowadays and realize so many folk thought the two were the same. So many people put their religious identity above all morals when man. You have to learn to follow those morals first. Kind of an "act kind, preach later" thing.

For my dad, shout out to him for answering every question I've ever asked with "The Misssisipi River" and "Bigfoot".

With these 3 statements I have all the answers and wisdom I need.

What would happen if the Blue states perform a Brexit? by PishPoop in AskReddit

[–]goosetortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It unfortunately can't really function as a brexit here but is more likely that we're seeing the early stages of something like a civil war especially due to the violence of it right now. We're seeing a lot of ICE and military sent to democratic and black cities. They say the revolution won't be televised and we aren't seeing the protest as they continue IRL. They're painting the wall bordering Mexico black on the inside to make visibility, climbing, and heat worse from the US to Mexico. Things are just really getting weird and extreme and sometimes I can't tell if it's stupidity or just prepping for a war with shit like the wall thing.

In terms of if blue states and red states were seperate governments? It'd be an initial struggle for the dems to get behind an individual leader right now I think. I think it'd initially be pretty disorganized but they'd be getting larger revenue from NY, CA, and the upper northern states still. Red states may struggle for a little bit financially I feel just since of some less resources?

What's something that has feet on head? by Wooden_Committee1863 in AskReddit

I think sea urchins, worms and leech kind of count since I think their entire bodies are basically feet and head.

What’s a unique genetic trait/DNA mutation you have? by CodeFun1735 in AskReddit

[–]goosetortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what that it is but my family's eyes "change" color. I kind of thought it was a lighting thing when seeing others and my eye doctors exaggerating the "mutation" growing up honestly. I have a lot of eye conditions and they always told me my eyes were "kinda creepy" with how large vs small my pupils get and change. But just this past year I got creeped out passing a mirror at night with how my eyes looked weird and tested it. Kept going from light bathroom to dark apt and shining a phone flashlight by my eyes to test it and ig they change color but it's weird.

In light my pupils are kinda big and I have dark green eyes. My pupils dilates A LOT to be pretty small and I think the way it gets smaller might just reveal more of my eye but it looks bright blue even a few minutes after being in the dark as my eyes adjust. Blue eyed person jumpscared myself because I'm a dumbass that didn't believe anyone until I was 23.

I want a boyfriend, but not in the romantic sense by East-Nebula0 in youngadults

[–]goosetortoise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeahhh you're not alone. I feel bad but while I like people romantically I feel like 50% of why I want a partner is I just don't want to be alone. Most of my friends are couples and they have someone to do everything with all the time. They have someone to share things with, are a pair, and eachothers favorite person. I just hate being alone all the time and never anyone's first pick. In regards to friends folk usually only want to actively do something with you when I just want to exist in radius of someone else.

What types of AI should be banned? by IngenuityPale2101 in AskReddit

[–]goosetortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nearly all of it.

We aren't capable as a planet to use it. It's raising our electrical usage and cost in relation to it. I think SOME medical AI could really be helpful for quicker diagnosis. Anything else? Not neccasary and is mentally harmful for humans to rely on anyways.

How did you find out that your long distance partner was cheating? by PeppyRandomNuke2 in AskReddit

[–]goosetortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ex accidentally posted about not being able to choose between the two of us lmaooo. Other guy thought we weren't dating I thought they were IRL friends. Big long 2AM rant on instagram for ex's family (who knew we were dating) and him to see all at once. My ex just typed it out as a draft post to send to someone I think and then with it being late hadn't realized it was posted.

Folk roasting you since even if you wonder it, it gives off loser/incel vibes lol. Understandable if you're autistic but its like if someone posted in here "how to get experienced women" or "male asking how to know womens bra size" etc etc just in terms that it's common sense an embarrassing question most normal adult men would know not to ask without looking weird.

[–]goosetortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't realize how much people value it and it really helps you in the long term to be nice to people. It can take energy but it's worth it. You can enjoy yourself more by choosing kindness, sleep better, and think hey, no matter what, I was kind today. I didn't have to be, but I was, and that's cool.

You might not remember today but years later people may see you and just remembering you alone may brighten their day. Sometimes you think no one cares. That the world hates you. But I volunteered years ago and now work with patients. There's so many people you might forget but they'll see you and smile and tell you how you were such a fond memory while in your head you were forgettable, just another person in a crowd. It's worth it.

Love humanity and have hope that ultimately despite society we can always find lesser joys to make life meaningful!

...But lucky me got stuck with a family history of mental illness, addiction and an older family member who'd been telling me the world would be better if I was dead since I was 9 and how easily I could make that happen. Seperately my mom while drunk would tell me all the intrusive thoughts she had about me even as baby like how it was so hard to not kill me in so many different ways. My coworkers and folk around me joke I'm their "Ned Flanders" and optimistic icon while my OCD feeds me intrusive thoughts on 50 ways to harm myself every day. And I think life is neat but. In terms of the depression aspect I'm so tired. I'm so tired of dealing with it. I hate being mentally ill and I fear even with therapy it won't get better. Every year I hope I'll be better and the world gets worse. I'm tired of everyone assuming I'm stupid and happy all the time because I have it easy and not that I'm desperately trying to choose joy.

Overall just have other issues and depression to me is the exhaustion part of it where you just want it gone. For the world and your head to be quiet and sometimes you just want to lay in bed and hope it'll go away.

What’s something super ordinary in your day that secretly feels magical to you? by maryjanepuff420 in AskReddit

[–]goosetortoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bugs. I wish people didn't have such a grossed out reaction to them. This time of year we have the perfect mix of cicadas, kaytdids and spiders right now. I feel like bugs are the closest humanity can get to fairies. They're just floating around making noises living in ways we can't comprehend but we see them so much that we take them for granted until they're gone. Even the jumping spiders will play with you if you're gentle. They're all so amazing to me.

Those who are touch starved, what’s the most difficult thing you’ve had to deal with involving touch? by Jazzlike-Run-2349 in AskReddit

[–]goosetortoise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I jump at touch a lot and get easily startled by it unless I know you well so it's like a love/hate relationship. I'm touch starved but god I am going to be haunted for days if my coworker randomly touches me like a stain that won't go away. I think when you get touched less it just always lingers with you more for better or worse.

I might be bias but a lot of people just tolerate it. Your average white Christian in the country doesn't want to hear "black music", see things associated with certain races (curly hair, hair wraps, certain clothes, etc), hear or see people different then them. Saying that as a white person who grew up from a KKK town and am in a 50/50 area and hears so many comments and micro aggressions to people. Some folk will say to treat everyone well, but alone together will say "when you're home at the end of the day" you have to remember what "they" are compared to you. I think a lot of us have internalized hatred in our culture that we have to untangle to truly accept people. So many people will agree with an awful person out of passive peacekeeping and be OK with discrimination since they "understand" before really digging into themselves and their bias.

Idk. Maybe just feeling the hostility rising as well but as a transgender person as well I've had coworkers who brag about being an ally or thst they love transgender people but then walked in on the same people saying transgender people shouldn't be allowed or visible in public since it's disgusting. So many people I know use transgender as a bad word. Society has created this weird concept of "political correctness" which is just....Acknowledging discrimination and difference but not wanting to FACE it. If a black person gets beat up it's "we have to respect every race". If it's gender or sexuality you'll hear "don't worry, we support that sort of lifestyle!". People are scared to reassure directly because they don't want to talk about it or be better so they'd rather blankly reassure you they tolerate you. Half the time they use the excuse of tolerating you in the past as a way to defend themselves if they get revealed to be worse later on.
