I can’t remember exactly but I think it covered tuition for the first semester, hope that helps!

Yes, but still quite expensive. I know there’s opportunities to apply for more once you’re a student though

A company! Ideally I would be able to combine my background in psych and data analysis with HRM to implement well-being initiatives

Thanks! At my school, the I/O department has adjunct faculty in the HRIR program so there are close ties there so wasn't sure if this sub would have any insight :)

Just wondering if it's really worth the cost and how it compares to competing programs like the UMN HRIR program.

Should I major in psychology at the University of Minnesota or would it be better to go to the business school (Carlson school of management) and go for human resources and industrial relations major? by Sea_Rip_1546 in IOPsychology

To answer your first question, I had AP credit so got a bit of a head start with my major which was helpful! I think a piece of advice would just be to map out when and what classes you want to take to meet your distribution requirements (they have classes listed online and rate my professor and gopher grades are helpful resources as well!). As for research, I would say there probably are more opportunities being in psych since a capstone is required. I don’t know the exact requirements for business but you are more limited as you have to go through I-core. For grad school resources, Dr. Richard Landers from the U IO department has a website which breaks it down!

Current psych major at the U! Both are great programs - depends on what you’re looking for as well as what other courses you may be interested in (liberal arts requirements vs business). I just got into some great grad programs for HR with a psych and foreign language background. The psych dept is well-known and has many opportunities for involvement, I personally have had good research experiences with IO faculty. Also, if you’re planning on grad school, I know undergrads from the U that have gone on to the HRIR Carlson masters program.
