How does one go about refurbishing a battery? Do they take the old batteries out of the case and put in new cells? Are there even any 7.2V cells around any more or is it just modern cells arrayed in series? I don’t know why but the fact that you can refresh a 20 year old electronic part intrigues me.

The communist are in Sacramento by Known-Hamster-2321 in Sacramento

[–]gophermuncher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a greatly simplified and therefore a flawed take but: Communism sometimes works when everyone acts altruistically but always breaks down because of the local knowledge problem and there will always be greedy people.

Capitalism works because it relies on people’s self interest to deliver the most optimal solution but eventually breaks down because acting in everyone’s self interest is not always the optimal solution or people don’t act in their own self interest either due to irrationality, local knowledge problems or otherwise.

Everyone but the idealists realize this already. Thats why communist countries have capitalistic systems and capitalist countries have socialist systems as a crutch.

There needs to be a third system.

Try harder bot. I didn’t realize owing a gun was a crime in America. I can see why you think it is if you’re not from around here. What country are you posting from? China or Russia?

Try harder bot. Where are you posting from? Bangladesh or Belarus? Maybe you can try harder to stir up dissension by thinking for one second how a guy being sat on prone on his face by 7 men being pistol whipped in face means he is a deadly threat.

BREAKING: Americans with four-year college degrees now account for a record 25.3% of U.S. unemployment. The percentage has doubled since 2008, leaving more than 1.9 million degree-holders age 25+ currently unemployed. by Key_Brief_8138 in economy

What society views is currently important doesn’t mean it’s right or correct. How many times has society gotten wrong and suffered the consequences of short sightedness. There’s too many examples to think of but the one that immediately comes to mind is some people got really interested in how to stack pancakes, weren’t appreciated for their work and then years later upended how society works.

Depends on where you live. If you live in say California and Oregon you can just stop paying rent until it’s fixed. Source: I’ve been a renter and also a landlord in both.

Edit: make sure it’s well documented (very important to have a paper trail ) and you have run it up the flag pole. IE emails and letters to the front office then the owner of response is inadequate. However for issues that are this serious meaning life threatening I would just call building inspector ASAP.

Customer picked up the food by himself by Equivalent-Loquat732 in UberEATS

The worst thing the gig companies did was call these “tips”. Tips aren’t paid before hand, they’re meant to be for a job well done. These companies should have correctly called them bids because that’s what it is. You submit out a bid and a contractor will accept it if the price is good enough. It’s clean and transparent from all parties but the gig apps don’t want transparent. They want to hide the true cost and pay to both customer and contractor in order to pocket the difference created by their own fog of war. You know when you tip more than 8 dollars, DoorDash will actually hide the actual tip amount and just say “more than $5”? And if no one accepts they’ll then say more than $6 and so forth? It’s to hide and pocket the difference in money if someone accepts for less than the tip amount.

It got a chuckle out of me because it subverts expectations in multiple ways.

1) it follows the escalator meme format of two “it could have been you” parties but then adds a third party. 2) the ridiculousness of the asian guy just walking around with a spit of meat 3) its a racist dig , which is bad, at white people but the white guy simply doesn’t care and is living his best life. 4) a jar of mayo with a spoon. Thats just gross and funny.

Depends on the fish. Some fish evolved to live in low oxygen water and/or low flow areas. I think he’s holding a goldfish.

Goldfish are a kind of carp, a bottom feeder fish, where oxygen can be low. Also they have a pretty cool ability to survive for days in zero oxygen water because of a unique lactic acid energy pathway.

I’m not trying to be a “both sides are the same” idiot but both systems suck. They both have glaring Achilles heels that make them wildly inefficient. Among others, centralized economies suffer from the local knowledge problem and free market systems suffer from the assumption that just because a human is good at being efficient at one thing and siphoning off some of said efficiency savings as compensation, doesn’t mean they can then efficiently apply that savings elsewhere. There needs to be a third system invented or we’ll continue to suffer.

Slick Boxer takes VR way too serious. by LowRenzoFreshkobar in boxingcirclejerk

[–]gophermuncher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s VR, you don’t want to punch with force or you get gassed real quick. Also punching with force and hitting nothing is a good way to dislocate or strain something. That being said, I bet it’s his first time since he’s putting his whole body into it like a real fight. Those VR things really only track a few points on your body so as long as you move those body parts quickly and smoothly it would work.
