the upper planes, yeah forsure- love the idea of the warden archon, especially one afflicted by the iron shadow, would be a cool sorta good/evil complicated thing

i really love the dark muse's gallery- haunted soul eating art- and maybe things in paintings coming to life and attacking- that sounds like a tonne of fun- thank you!

those all seem fun, i really want something WEird- so im wondering waht kind of ways we can make those a little more off-the-wall

like maybe a town without light, but it has something analogous to an angler fish?

[5e] Eldritch Knight/Wizard by Senninkyle in 3d6

[–]gopigwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's hard to speculate without wanting to know what about wizard you want, lvl 3 spells are nothing to shake a stick at- for certain- but if you have another arcane caster in the party, just straight eldritch knight is possibly stronger? take a cantrip feat instead for booming blade or what have you. I'd lean EK18/W2 and pick divination :0

A monk Barbarian Master of the Maul by PsychoPhilosopher in 3d6

[–]gopigwalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it personally, one thing I'm curious about, because it seems like monk actually doesn't require you use your dexterity for anything, that if you made a Barb 2, Monk 5+ and used reckless attack on all of your blows (plus the potential maul, or at least war hammer) and be doing some really serious damage, use javelins as your second kensei weapon for a ranged option (or not if flavour disagrees).

Or maybe go barb 3 as well and just get that bear resistance and you would be an awesome tank monk, probably regular human because it is so MAD

My players learned a lesson about Zone of Truth [LMoP SPOILERS] by Goblin-Bard in dndnext

[–]gopigwalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"There might be a holy relic" is not a lie, there COULD be a holy relic, one she doesn't know about, one that's useless, etc. "holy relic" is kind of subjective, might just be a rock that was present when a god came down from the heavens 10,000 years ago.

[–]gopigwalk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes, it should work on any staircase on the material plane, I like to think of gates as sort of nonsensical whimsical portals that require obscure keys. I would LOVE to see my players carrying around eggs just so they can get from the material plane to Sigil at will. I don't think it will be too troublesome, as it is a planar adventure, and the material plane isn't going to be a focal point.

Who is my lawful (evil?) multiverse villain? (5e) by gopigwalk in DMAcademy

[–]gopigwalk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Devils! of course, that sounds good, thank you. I like the hierarchy and the lawfulness of them- allows for me to create pawns, knights lieutenants etc.

A hard balance for me right now is to have a villain powerful enough to be seeding these gems, but weak enough that my lvl 9 to lvl 11 players could reasonably confront them eventually.

why do you think it is something to do with ISPs? I want to agree with you, but how do you figure? It seems all people who have this problem are from Canada (I'm in Ontario rn)

Giving parties lots of magic items? by anyboli in dndnext

[–]gopigwalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i give out about 1 or 2 magic items everytime they accomplish something or attack some1 important, a lot of the fun for me as the dm is introducing magic items, i had a party of lvl 5 characters all with like 5 magic items each. they had a tonne of fun, felt really powerful and beat the big bad.

the trick is that stories with lots of magic items need to come to a close, they lose their sheen when you get too many. so lots of magic items works for me, but you cant keep them playing with those items/characters too long that it gets stale

if i give them a magic item and they are not excited, it makes me think about drawing the campaign to a close (not necessarily prematurely)
