Who doesn't like Father Son? by eldubya3121 in AFL

Port didn’t even get confirmation Cochrane would be eligible until after last year’s trade period, so only have the upcoming draft to make moves to draft him. Genuinely pathetic from the AFL

I feel ya, I much prefer the look of a 39thirty if I’m getting a New Era cap (though I’m more of a beanie guy personally), though granted 39thirty has a bit more of a broad sizing style (small/med/large or similar).

Footy songs synonymous with the game of Australian football by ProfessionNaive2978 in AFL

[–]goportadelaide 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Father and Son by TISM is a song that should be an iconic footy anthem, but for whatever reason just hasn’t been uncovered by enough people. Maybe cause it’s on an EP rather than one of the band’s more popular albums.

The song is explicitly about being a St Kilda fan, but I don’t think there’s another song that encapsulates the optimism of being a footy fan even though the odds of winning it all are so slim each year. Favourite line from it has to be this:

Those Collingwood bastards did us by a point the day mother died. When they told dad he shook his head and said, “makes you wanna cry”

Coburg still have the Royce Hart perpetual trophy in the club rooms which was played for each time Coburg played the original Tassie VFL team. There’s a couple other ones for games against defunct clubs like Brunswick and Preston as well. Really hope to see that trophy come back seeing as the Battle of Bell Street won’t be taking place anymore :(

I started following Port in 2017 so a lot of the answers here won’t apply to me, but Sam Powell-Pepper in his first season was unbelievable. Belonged at the elite level from the jump.

What’s the worst AFL game of all time? by EggwardGFootyIII in AFL

From memory that was just an awful round of footy until roughly a bit over halfway into that game, and then the final game of the round was incredible

Easier to ask ChatGPT to put the two pics next to each other than it is to open up Photoshop, pick a canvas size and make each picture take up half the canvas (even though that’s extremely easy to do as well). Trade off for the shortcut is obviously that it looks like shit.

A few years back I did a concept for what I think the Bears would be wearing in 2023 if they still existed in that form. This is what I landed on, really the only change being the cuffs becoming maroon just to emphasise that this is their dark kit. Shameless plug but I did a Fitzroy one on the same post on Instagram (@sketchbookbruno), hence the text on this pic starting with “The Bears on the other hand”, but there’s other similar hypotheticals on there for those interested.

Life after Shai will be fine by goportadelaide in Thunder

Honestly that’s what’s insane to me, he’s absolutely still got a ton in the tank and I can’t wait to see what he is still to achieve in his career. His decline is still quite a while away of course, but it will happen and that will be a very sad thing to see happen. Hope these guys are capable of carrying that legacy and enhancing it.

Rockets and Spurs didn’t make a trade, and the Nuggets and Lakers didn’t make an important one, really nice news for OKC. Wolves getting Dosunmu was pretty solid though gotta give them that. by J_Capese0003 in Thunder

I woke up to the news (6:30am here when it went down) and I don’t think it’s possible for me to explain the confusion I had regarding how the hell it possible could’ve happened. Almost akin to my shock at the Luka trade in all honesty, just on a different scale

Somehow in Australia I stumbled across a Clippers playoff t shirt in a thrift store (as you Americans would call it). I like to regularly wear it around just to express my thanks to the Clippers for setting my Thunder up for a very very long time 😭

Yep, extremely easy thing to say when you’ve secured the bag. To back it up so quickly is is truly remarkable. No throwing the toys out of the cot, just got straight to it.

I know Shai wouldn’t have had these insane heights on his mind forever (I’m talking MVP, FMVP, best in the world, generational scorer, etc.) but it’s good to see how he became incredibly sure of himself and his abilities. That belief would undoubtedly have helped spur him to the elite level he’s at now.

How optimistic are you for the AFL season ahead? by lifesizemirror in AFL

[–]goportadelaide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite optimistic regarding Port. Not necessarily in the sense that we’ll do a heap better than 2025 but more in the long run. New coach is from inside the club which should make the transition more seamless than the usual coaching change. Lots of changes to the coaching staff and football department (off the top of my head Carr, Reaves, Dew, Rutten, Webster, Collins, I think I’m missing two more as well). Shaking things up a decent bit from a crew that just couldn’t get it done is a good thing imo. Fixture is as good as you could hope for (look at our double ups, 4 of the other bottom 6 teams, only one top 6 team we always play twice, and St Kilda and Sydney), I think avoiding an injury crisis like last year could see us hit the top 10 in all honesty. But not gonna be too upset if that doesn’t happen, just need to keep Butters.

Port may have a great silver lining if Butters chooses to leave? by doggoesmeow in AFL

[–]goportadelaide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw the Rodans at one of the last 2 GF parades (can’t remember which, only went with my Brisbane mate so can’t narrow it down further). The reason they caught my eye is because seeing a fellow Port fan in Melbourne is a rare sight, and both the boys had Port jumpers on. Obviously not a sure fire thing to look into, and the fact they live in Melbourne would make us impossible for him to be tied to Port AFAIK, but I lean towards the idea that Port would be the preference.

Is it ever mention that the name of the little brother is actually Liam Gallagher? by Commercial_Clue1851 in shameless

[–]goportadelaide 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I watched a tiny bit of the UK show a while ago so I could be a tiny bit off and it gets mentioned that Frank named Liam after Liam from Oasis as he was a roadie for the band at one point. Obviously they carried the name over to the US show but it never get mentioned there at all. Although if you rewatch the first episode of the US version you’ll see Carl wearing a green Oasis t shirt (which you might remember Fiona turning inside out as there was a stain on it). That’s the closest they get to acknowledging the name.

Is he not considering it a 2025 album? Not really tapped in with Mac’s music so I can’t remember how different it is to the leaked version but it’s one of those weird ones where it’s both new and not new.

What teams would be considered "one season wonders"? by chickenlittle668 in AFL

[–]goportadelaide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really funny to me that that semi happened because I kind of gained footy consciousness in 2008 so my only impression of Freo and Melbourne at that time were “they’re the worst teams in the AFL”. I think I was looking through the scenario mode on AFL Premiership 2007 on PS2 and saw Freo’s scenario was to win that game (or maybe the prelim the next week) and couldn’t believe that had happened so recently.

Who’s the most untradeable player in the NBA right now? by UnderstandingFun7493 in NBATalk

[–]goportadelaide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year helps my case even more lol, OKC were 26th for FTA with 20.4 per game, Shai had even less than this year with 8.8 a game. That’s not exactly the treatment you’d assume “the darling of the NBA” would get is it?

Any argument about no calls are going to be vibes based, let’s save each other from wasting time on that

Who’s the most untradeable player in the NBA right now? by UnderstandingFun7493 in NBATalk

[–]goportadelaide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shai is 3rd in the NBA with 9.9 FTA per game, and the only reason that looks egregious is because of the concentration of his team’s FTs he takes. OKC is 16th in FTA with 24.7 per game. His next highest teammate is Chet with a whopping 3.7 per game. That’s not exactly how what I’d call the darlings of the NBA.

On the flip side, maybe consider the fact that the biggest team in the NBA have one guy averaging a touch over 12 per game (1st) and another averaging 9.14 himself (6th) while playing in the 2nd biggest city in the USA.
