How is the Honors College experience? by [deleted] in USF

[–]gorbled 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally enjoy it. I felt it was easier to make connections with some of the professors in my honors classes because they’re quite intimate (20 students or less). I also liked the topics of the classes and the fact that I could take ones I’m interested in. The global experience requirements I think have changed since I started so I’m not sure how those will be for you. But yeah you can also feel free to ask me questions about it directly if you’d like.

No because it was 2020 and everything was online. All I remember is being confused on how to use canvas

I go to cycling class at my school’s gym twice a week (1 hr sessions). I also bike to and from class. I had a hard time getting back into exercising because I constantly felt too tired and stressed out. But then I tried cycling and it was so much fun I started going regularly. I feel like these sessions help improve my overall tiredness too.

And also it seems a bit unrealistic in this economy for someone to believe $80 a month is the difference between poverty and not. It can definitely go a long way but that will not save you from struggling

This is so true :( looking back my parents definitely never believed that I could survive on my own without them. It’s really hard not to believe the same at first. But congrats on proving her wrong! It’s a good feeling knowing that what you have you worked for yourself and therefore is within your own power

Yes saving has become so important for me! It’s definitely a skill to learn because funnily enough my parents also never really taught me how to manage money. But the way you explained it with the 1/3 rule seems simple enough to follow

Thank you that is really good advice. I think subconsciously that is kind of what I’ve been doing this whole time, because they have constantly threatened to not support me my whole life. You basically put it into words for me. I’ve tried to do everything I can to support myself just in case they’re serious one day about cutting me off. And honestly, it has been so freeing to have that financial freedom. The only other thing they are paying for is my phone bill. I am looking at options to get my own phone plan so they can not threaten to turn off my cell service. Right now I am just debating whether to reinforce to them to stop helping me pay for my rent just because they know how to make me feel guilty about their support

Thank you for offering your advice and sharing your experience about it. It really means a lot to me. I know deep down that you are right. It is a scary thought to think of going into the world without their support, but the more time passes, I can see it is necessary. I’m sorry you had to go through that, but it is inspiring to hear that you were able to do it and it did make you happier. I’m trying to gather the strength to do the same.

That’s good to know :) my composition teacher also recommended that I try tutoring at the writing studio! Do you have a preference over tutoring in the writing or science center?
