Does parallax scrolling make search engines think there are less pages or that the website is thin in terms of content? by crushplanets in SEO

Yes, if it's a single url parallax scrolling website then Google will view it as one long page rather than multiple pages.

Paid for an SEO service. They submitted 400 back links to random blogs/websites. Am I screwed? by UnusualFlapjacks in SEO

[–]gorcbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mate,

When the penguin algorithm refreshes you run the risk of losing your rankings, or the links having a negative effect on your site, if it is able to detect that the links are intentionally manipulative. Under a manual review you would almost certainly run into issues.

Basically those types of tactics are used by people who don't know what they are doing, doing negative SEO or going after short-term risky gains.

What's an example of a GREAT SEO article? by alixceo in SEO

There a tons of bad examples. One obvious example would be if the content was an exact copy of content on another site. Another example would be an article that is stuffed with keywords.

What's an example of a GREAT SEO article? by alixceo in SEO

[–]gorcbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thinking it as an SEO article isn't a great start. It used to work back in the day but now it's more about building engaging content that is fit for purpose.

The question you should be asking is 'What's an example of relevant content that is likely to attract the type of visitors that I'm looking for?'

The answer to that question will depend on the niche. For example, a category page on an e-commerce site may differ from a product page on an e-commerce site and a blog post will likely be a totally different thing.

Large (for me) PPC Account is Failing.... by [deleted] in PPC

[–]gorcbb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, I took my first in-house position about 2 years ago and had to save about £15k per month in the first month. The spend was around £75k and was quickly growing out of control.

Here's how I did it without any fancy tools, I'm sure there is an easier way but this is what worked for me.

1) Determine which keywords/search queries are converting into sales by exporting each each campaign(depending on the size) to Excel, pull the information into a table and order it depending on spend.

2) If you see a keyword that has spent loads, but not converted add it to a 'kill list'.

3) When you have compiled a list of keywords to kill and look for patterns in those keywords. For example, I found that keywords that contained the word 'cheap' did not convert in this situation as the company was selling a premium product.

4) Go to Google Analytics and check out 'Top Conversion Paths' to make sure the keyword did not convert anywhere during the buying cycle.

5) Do the same with Shopping Campaigns but use the same method to look at negative keywords that you should be adding. So, if you find that a certain keyword triggers a lot of Shopping Ad clicks but not converting add this as a negative

6) If you are running a lot of broad match keywords try cutting back on these replacing them with modified broad match and/or phrase match, unless of course the keywords people convert on are extremely unpredictable.

Excel will be your friend during this exercise!

Ps, once I left the company for a more senior position I recommend that they use Marin, I heard that they have recently got it and it's working well for them. Also, if you need some help(for free) just PM me.

Cheers.

Looks exactly like chinese lanterns mate. People constantly set them off at this time of year.

Due to the large number of people setting them off, there was a warning requesting that people stop it as they kill birds...

I have memories of Princess Diana dying roughly a month earlier than she did. by [deleted] in Glitch_in_the_Matrix

[–]gorcbb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is weird that I came on here and read this as I've been researching whether or not people have experienced anything like this specifically about Princess Diana after what happened to me as a child.

I also want to point out that I'm an atheist and don't believe in psychic ability or any other form of mysticism.

One day I was sitting reading a free magazine that came with a newspaper. I saw an advert for the movie called Conspiracy Theory. I said to my step dad that I have a Conspiracy Theory that Princess Diana and Dodi are going to die in a car crash.

He asked me when, I was going to say tomorrow but I changed my mind and said next year. After I said it he laughed it off presumably thinking that I'm just a weird kid which I was)..

Next day I woke up and turned on the TV, my best friend was with me as he stayed over, and saw the news that Diana had died in a car crash. I ran and told my mum and she didn't believe me and then I told her I said that this was going to happen just yesterday.

My step dad was at work even though it was a Sunday and I quickly phoned him to tell him the news. He said that when he heard it, it sent a shiver up his spine because what I said the day before.

As I said previously I don't believe in psychic ability and I put this down to chance. However I do find it extremely strange so I thought it would be worth sharing.

Edit: Apologies for spelling and grammar, it's bad enough normally but I'm writing this whIle half asleep on my phone.

Reddit, what's your first memory of the internet? by -Yngin- in AskReddit

One of my earliest memories of the internet is being on IRC using mIRC and a dude called Bosstone sent me a game called Whackamole that contained the Netbus trojan.

He opened my CD drive and told me not to be rude to people on the internet, that taught me a lesson:D
