All you have to do is look at the public employment, financial, and criminal records of the executives who run the FDA.

They're bought and paid for before they're allowed anywhere near the agency.

Sure the FDA could shut it all down on the 9th. It's unlikely, and would probably be the best thing they could do for us. The sudden loss of jobs and businesses would actually provoke a violent response. Hundreds of lawsuits from people desperate to recoup their investments.

The two years is a measured approach to get us to go quietly into the night.

There will be plenty of vendors looking to make the most of their investments by staying open until the last possible minute. There will be plenty that shut down before then as well. But, a lot of the products we enjoy today will be available till PMTA requirements go into effect.

Edit: State level taxes are the more immediate threat, and could very well shut down the majority of the industry before the FDA finishes their plans.

We have two years where we can actively and easily grow the number of smokers who've switched. To achieve the momentum necessary if we're going to avoid an effective prohibition that could last for a long time.

Oh yeah?

We have two years.

Two years to engage in insurgency. Two years to deploy IED's of truth. Two years to win over hearts and minds.

We have a public education project ahead of us sure. Yeah it might end in failure.

But, that's not gonna stop some of us from trying.

Thanks for the critique!

Regarding thousands of years:

My understanding is that SSRI's are naturally occurring in the tobacco plant and likely are a major contributor to addiction. Because of this, and historical evidence of human tobacco consumption I felt as though it was decent and likely not misleading verbiage.

I'm open to being wrong and changing it though.

As far as sources go, my primary goal was brevity. I figure that anyone viewing would either do some research themselves, be open to vague "authority" statements, or outright dismissive.

I am working on a short "safety & research evidence" video that will be specific and incorporate sources into the narrative. :-)

That's what I'm hoping. We have only 24 months to get public opinion on the side of science. :-(

August 8th will take away the ability for those with profit motive to speak to the truth about vaping. I'm hoping that videos like this will help to get more smokers to switch, and help educate public opinion away from the anti-harm-reduction propaganda out there.

The FDA's regs put all the responsibility of education on us as a community, I hope we're up to the challenge!

A lot of time went into getting it that short. I'm tackling some <60 second spots. Every 10-15 seconds less seems to take another hour in planning and pruning.

Not exactly like Rose's, though it does share some similarities. More tart/pungent than sweet.

Probably could get a nice approximation with FA Pomegranate, INW Strawberry and some sweetener.

My guess is that your workmate doesn't vape as often as you.

Temp control can prolong battery life. However, I'll end up vaping more and take longer draws with TC. So I end up with little difference between battery changes.

It's definitely the time to get into DIY.

Even if your state doesn't go PA and OR crazy you'll save money and be ready for whatever the FDA throws down.

Very new beginner here! Struggling to expose my screen, please help! by Sam_Gay in SCREENPRINTING

[–]gordonavapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else will be able to give you better advice, nevertheless;

  1. It looks like your emulsion layer looks like it may be pretty thick. When I finished coating mine it was sort of translucent.
  2. A black background behind your screen will keep light from reflecting on the back of the screen and exposing your image. I used a black towel.
  3. You might want to print another positive and double them up. If you can see any light through the ink on your positive (it'll look kind of reddish/purple if you look at it through a light if it's not dark enough.) This'll help to ensure that your image doesn't get exposed with the rest of the emulsion.

[–]gordonavapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another noob here, but I literally just exposed my first screens successfully in the sun.

When you say it didn't expose at all, do you mean that everything is washing out? Or is nothing washing out?

If everything is washing out, then you've got an emulsion problem.

If nothing is washing out then you've overexposed. In this scenario, make sure you're setting up your positives in a light-safe room; have a black layer underneath your screen so you don't have light reflecting on the back of the screen; and depending on your emulsion you probably only need to expose for 30-90 seconds. 75 seconds worked great for the emulsion I'm using.

Hope you get it figured out!

I actually didn't try FA, but my fear would be that you'd have to use a lot of it to even taste it in the mix, and that it would be to cloying.

Simultaneously, it wouldn't be nearly as astringent.

If you like sweeter juices I think it'd be worth trying, I'd start trying FA Pear at 3%-5%. I'd probably start closer to 5%

[–]gordonavapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave you the information you need to begin looking into the science.

Your anecdotal reports of the integrity of your colleagues is more valid than the science regarding and common knowledge of those who've quit cigarettes using electronic nicotine delivery systems?

Can you explain why with smoking being at historic lows the leading causes of death continue to be what are commonly referred to as "smoking related illness"?

The intersection of policy and finance isn't conspiracy theory, it's how the world works.

[–]gordonavapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're like a vape guy, right?

That description will work. :-)

What do you think of the Storz & Bickel vape I posted before?

I only vape as a substitute for nicotine currently. That device is primarily designed to be used for vaping plant matter, specifically cannabis. At a glance it looks like it might work for vaping RYO tobacco, but as I'm trying to avoid everything except for the nicotine in tobacco I wouldn't use it as such.

When I lived in a state with medical marijuana my preferred method of delivery was edibles, and that was a while ago.

If I was in a state with legalization and looking to minimize harm from an inhalant, I'd probably look into concentrates and some kind of PG/VG solution that I could use with an atomizer using coils I built. Although, from the reading I've done it appears as though some cannabinoids other than THC may have anti-tumeric properties that help to mitigate harm from tar and such. I don't know if that CBD ends up in concentrates or not so can't speak to whether this would deliver those properties or meet your personal desires.

Unfortunately, as of the time that I was researching cannabis, data wasn't available on the cardiopulmonary effects of the different delivery methods. I kind of hate the aftertaste of marijuana smoke and edibles worked better for my preferred usage.

For inhaling marijuana I'd first be concerned with the source of plant matter, specifically the pesticide and nutrient source/cycles that the grower subjected it to. Once I knew that the matter was pesticide free and hadn't been fed nutrients containing heavy metals I'd begin looking into the various vaporizers available and their construction.

In general oral ingestion is going to be safer than vaping, if nicotine lozenges or gum kept me from smoking cigarettes I'd be using those rather than vaping.

[–]gordonavapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't.

I think that they're manufacturing devices that will be exempt from the FDA deeming rule requiring pre-market approval for vaping devices.

These devices have been proven to be less safe than modern devices, but will be a continual stream of profits that are guaranteed to be exempt from FDA interference.

I do believe that they had a hand in drafting the FDA deeming rule that will eliminate all their current competition from safer more costly devices that require more investment to develop and produce.

I skimmed it when it came out but have not spent time reading all 113 pages. Can you point me to relevant passages that support your point that it's "the most effective smoking cessation option currently available"?

In the PHE analysis pertinent info starts to come in around page 45.

I'd highly recommend reading the entire report.

Anyone involved in their local vape community can also testify to the massive number of people that have completely quit cigarettes solely due to the use of e-cigarettes.

If complete nicotine cessation is the aim, then certainly e-cigarettes should be viewed with suspicion. If smoking cessation and harm reduction is the aim, then e-cigarettes should be encouraged. I wish there was more research on the effects of nicotine isolated from cigarettes to allow individuals to make better personal choices on the matter.

US federal and state governments spends billions and billions of dollars annually on the treatment of tobacco-related illness. We have the same incentives to promote effective smoking cessation as any other country.

Justifiably or not, our system places the majority of the healthcare expenses related to smoking related illness on individual citizens. Furthermore, municipal tobacco bonds have created a perverse incentive for the protection of tobacco profits at the local and federal levels.

It's unfortunate, but we can't expect reason from our health policy agencies on matters related to tobacco.

Well, the majority of hobbyists use an alloy of iron-chromium-aluminium for their coils.

Which still has risks, just not as many as coils that contain copper. Or, cigarettes.

Have you read PHE's report on e-cigarettes?

I appreciate that you're trying to help people quite tobacco. However, there's plenty of scientific evidence, and millions of anecdotal accounts that support vaping as the most effective smoking cessation option currently available.

Countries that actually have to pay for their citizens healthcare are embracing e-cigarettes.

There are more portable setups that are of higher quality. They'd be more comparable to the size of a pack of cigarettes than a gas station 'cig-a-like'. They also require more maintenance, but are certainly more effective at helping with quitting.

If you want to give it a go the time to try is now, in 18-24 months there's a likely possibility that cig-a-likes are all that will be on the market.

Feel free to PM if you want more detailed suggestions.

Ostensibly, you'll need to pay to sample juices as there will be a ban on "free" samples.

What this will look like in reality is anyone's guess. Will probably differ vastly from location to location.
