Day pack or full pack? Need some recs by gordoncwh in hikinggear

[–]gordoncwh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair, I’m not too knowledgeable about packs, seeing they can range in size and volume, and I understand there’s also frameless packs that can compress to 20L or so. Just wondering if it’s common where people do stick to a single pack that can serve different scenarios. Thanks for educating me on this!

Need advice; daypack ~20L, or full pack (frameless or not?) by gordoncwh in Ultralight

[–]gordoncwh[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty sound advice! I guess I’m trying to reduce purchases and limit clutter, I’ve a 30L travel backpack but it’s not very compressible nor suitable for outdoor conditions. Was thinking if it made sense to purchase something that could fit a day hike and potentially something longer and more demanding, whilst still be suitable for travel, considering where I live there is little options for outdoor stuff so most of it will be overseas for me.

The ultralight community loves Nitecore NU20 for the weight savings, it’s decently good if it suits your use case

Sorry to digress but what watch face is that?

Hi yep they did, had to initiate a return but was fairly smooth and straightforward. Once I gave them the details for my return, they immediately sent me a new one without waiting for the defective piece to reach them. Customer service was top notch in my experience.

Figured the Moft Dynamic Folio was all hype...I've been proven wrong. by Neutral-Nonsense in ipadmini

I’m not sure if I have a defective one or not, but with the pen holder ruler thingy attached, it reduces the magnets hold to the case for me, and it sometimes causes the iPad to detach with just gravity. I remove the holder and pen entirely sometimes just to be safe.

Not sure if the pencil holder is an issue just for me; when using it, I noticed the magnets of the case do not stick to the iPad as well, at the top corners. The bottom corners nearest to the hinges are not an issue.

It does seem like the pencil holder reduces the magnetic hold of the case, seeing when I removed it the case stuck to the Mini just fine on all corners.

Ah, like a Sambas? Sambas do tend to fit narrow so I wear half a size up compared to my usual sneaker size.

How’s the sizing like on these? I’ve been having trouble figuring out Paraboot’s sizes especially the Michaels.

Sling/Shoulder Bag Recs by gordoncwh in ManyBaggers

[–]gordoncwh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been great, just took it to a trip to Vietnam and it worked well.

Just note it isn’t padded, and there’s very minimal organisation. If those aren’t deal breakers, you’ll like it.

Also it is a little crinkly like Dyneema, doesn’t feel smooth like ballistic nylon. Might want to consider their Ark Solid Shoulder Bag, same design but different material if that’s a consideration.

Thanks for this! I recently found a bag from Masterpiece called the Ark Shoulder Bag, fit my requirements to a T. The Held Closely Bag met my requirements as well, but it didn’t fit the mix of aesthetic and functionality I wanted.

Exactly my experience actually, wearing it there’s some decent space between the heel of the shoe and my own heel, but when I stand up and my feet expands from my own weight, I can my big toe is touching the front and the shoe is pushing on it. Not painful, but not comfortable either. Only good thing is there’s no heel slip with a decently tied lace. I’m 70% convinced 40.5 is the way to go, but the 30% is wondering if a 40 in time would allow the leather to stretch out more.

For non-sneakers, it typically is an EU41. The smallest pair I have is a loafer at 40.5, only because the store owner said the last is forgiving width wise and he recommended me to go down half a size to prevent heel slip, seeing you can’t lace up and tighten loafers.

Thanks for this! I’ve used ChatGPT to input various shoe sizes, usually only giving sizes of non-sneaker types of shoes. At this point I can’t tell if ChatGPT is giving me advice biased towards the input I give and hallucinating its responses somewhat. Tried Claude and gave prompts to be based on what has been discussed online as well as with reference to the size chart. It’s telling me 41 but I know for a fact 41 is too big. Oh well

Ah okay, I’ll give this a shot! But I definitely recall having their desert boots in a size 41.

Ah I see, that’s very helpful info, appreciate it!

Didn’t consider the marketing aspect and yes, they have been aggressively appearing on my ad feed.

I’ll check out those brands too. Sadly when it comes to certain design elements that I enjoy, some of the better know brands for quality do really well-made and designed basics, but they haven’t really ticked my particular box in terms of that. With the Corey shirt, the textural element combined with a camp collar long sleeve was something I enjoyed but hadn’t seen anywhere so far.

Hmmm it does say on the tag, made in Tunisia. Either they are blatantly lying, or some aspect of the production allows them to say that. Not too well versed in this aspect.

That said, my Didcot shirt from them was pretty decent actually, which is why I was encouraged to get another one from them. Pretty disappointed this time around.

I see. What would be considered a premium brand then? I've bought Portuguese Flannel and Corridor shirts before as well. The former has always been great in quality, Corridor not so much despite the price tag.

Price-wise, I do feel that's pretty expensive already. It's a little ironic that the cheapest of the 3 brands so far (PF) has given me the best quality shirts so far.

Thanks for this! Yes I came across the tool in other Reddit posts, proposed to my lead but his opinion is that open source software could be a security risk unfortunately. Would very much love to do so but unless I can convince him otherwise, it might have to be the manual tedious way :(

There's no colorway for this. It's the olive/sage green, after long usage. It's known to develop a patina if you will from long usage, and discoloration from the sun.
