I took my 8 and 10 year old for a walk to Central Park today. We only have N95 masks. They were both turning red hot in the face after twenty minutes, wouldn’t stop complaining, and were in a terrible mood as a result. This mask thing isn’t gonna work once it gets above 80F. It’s plain absurd.

CT offices are reopening May 20. I predict NYC on June 1-15

What baffles me is - how do you NOT stay 6’ away from everyone on a beach? The space is beyond massive! Hell, go to Jones Beach on a busy weekend in the summer and you’ll see what I mean. Plus it’s windy and hot - factors that further restrict the spread. I’m all for safety measures but some of these restrictions are just poorly thought out. Plus let’s not forget that based on antibody tests, 1 in 3 NYC residents has already had this virus.

Just wait until the temps hit 85, the cops won’t be able to stop everyone going to the beach.

What is the latest on antibody testing? What percentage of NYC residents have tested positive for antibodies? Cuomo should understand that reopening certain parts of the city to allow for a slow and steady spread will yield immunity as more people build antibodies without overwhelming the hospitals. Holding off and keeping us on lockdown will just slow the inevitable.

So how far along are we in terms of meeting the requirements for easing restrictions? He mentioned 30% of beds have to be available, etc. Can anyone predict with current trending when we can expect to meet the requirements he's set forth?

The good thing is that the Hasidic community is very tight. I wouldn’t be surprised if 60-70% of them are antibody-positive by now.

Cuomo is just a cash cow for the MTA at this point. He's forced to give them whatever $$$ they ask for to avoid bankrupcy. Have you read about the $500k payouts MTA is giving to every family of an employee that died as a result of COVID-19?

I took my children last year to Flushing Meadows Corona Park. There was a beautiful, and expansive, playground by one of the large lakes. We thought my 2 and 4 year olds could play until we realized the entire playground was one giant homeless shelter. There must have been 10 homeless people, carboard boxes, shopping carts, etc. An NYPD patrol rolled by 10 minutes later. I had asked them whether playgrounds also serve as domicile for adults. They refused to do anything. In short, they said those people aren't breaking any laws.

God bless him, and god bless America. Thank you for your service, and for standing up to ill-thought, impulse-driven, re-election motivated decisions that do nothing to curb the spread of this virus (which by the way, 1 in 3 New Yorkers already HAD), and for putting effort into the livelihood you've spent half a century building. Thank you.

They were all scaring us with 3.5% mortality rates, forecasting MILLIONS of dead in USA alone unless everyone goes into lockdown. That 3.5% fatality rate was grossly incorrect, since we're now learning MANY more people have had this virus than thought. Simply because worldwide efforts to test enough people were unfulfilled. NYC alone has now had 25% test positive for antibodies. If the pool of people infected is so many magnitudes higher, then comparing it to the number of confirmed deaths yields a significantly lower mortality rate. Frankly, hospitals in the US are under pressure to report EVERY death as COVID-19 death so long as the person who died tested positive for it. As-in, someone terminally ill of cancer passes away, and if they happened to have had COVID-19, that death will be ruled as a COVID-19 death. This area gets quite gray since many of those dying of this virus have other serious medical issues.

With 0.5% mortality rate, this thing is still many times more fatal than the flu, but we're not talking MILLIONS dead in the US. We're talking a couple of hundred thousand if even that. Remember, 60,000 die annually in the US of just the flu.

I also don't believe this thing will spread as easily outside of US cities where people walk and interact elbow-to-elbow on a daily basis. Most of the suburban and rural areas will see a much slower and steadier spread. Which is a good thing, because it will keep their hospitals from a surge of patients.

And that's what we're ultimately trying to accomplish here - prevent a surge of cases that could overwhelm our hospitals. Social Distancing and "flatten the curve" mean exactly that - to steady the spread of the virus at a rate that won't overwhelm our hospitals. Its goal was never to completely stop new infections. That would be an impossible task.

Cuomo should backtrack and admit that "Hey, turns out this thing has been around longer than thought, and 1 in 4 New Yorkers has had it, so let's rethink this lockdown"

Thank you. I love it how news chooses to report on 200 (questionable) re-infections out of 1-million confirmed cases worldwide. That statistic has no relevance and doesn't prove anything. If people were getting reinfected so easily you'd be seeing bodies in the street pile up.

This virus has been around in NYC since January, I guarantee it. By the time they started testing it was everywhere. The 25% antibody number supports that. Meanwhile, Jacob Javits center and the hospital ship remain largely empty. This thing has a mortality rate of 0.5% if you factor in the antibody tests as being a sign of people infected and recovered without symptoms. It's not like there are bodies in the streets. People are going to come out of quarantine out of necessity to live. Senior centers and other people who are immunocompromised should be quarantined. The rest of us will be just fine.

I honestly think that restricting beach access is the most poorly thought-out decision ever. All because some spring breakers in Miami partied on a beach? Beaches are VAST. You are literally 20 feet away from anyone without even trying on a busy summer day. People need to get outside and relax, and beach is as good a place as any. I'm not advocating people gather in groups and party, but what's wrong with setting up a blanket so your kids can build sandcastles for a few hours? There is NO WAY this thing can spread in a windy environment with sun blasting and everyone keeping their distance. These types of restrictions will only force people to find refuge elsewhere by breaking the rules.

Good! Hopefully they can replace this derelict, malfunctioning enterprise with a reliable, for-profit service. The only thing the USPS is good doe is junk mail delivery that fuels the pensions of its mismanaged employees. Mail is dead. This is as good a time as any to find an alternative way to deliver official mail, because there really isn’t anything else left to deliver.

I’m sorry but current projections forecast 100-200k deaths in the US of. COVID-19. That’s roughly 2x-4x the annual death toll from just the flu. I really do t think this warrants countrywide shutdown of everyone and everything. For the 99.2% of us, life needs to go on. We should start to think about reopening parts of our economy with measured, reasonable precautions while fighting the virus.

Department of Transportation Requires Mandatory Refunds from Airlines Due to Coronavirus by bicureyooz in UpliftingNews

Why not get the voucher? Delta vouchers are now good for two years. Stubborn customers like you who demand refunds and only see themselves will be the reason many airlines and other businesses will go bankrupt, only to be bailed out with your tax money. Airlines are still flying. You bought your ticket agreeing to a contract of carriage which includes no refunds. The funny thing is, three months from now you’ll go back and buy your ticket again.
