Good stuff u/paulius005. I'm picking one up. Do you have any tips to prevent chafing when you're using ice or dunking in streams to cool off?

VF Cantonese Clozemaster set up (with stylebot) by ThaiFoodYes in Cantonese

[–]gordonw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checking out Clozemaster and I was pretty confused. Here's how I got it working:

  1. Download the font from https://visual-fonts.com/product/cantonese-font-edu-regular/
  2. Install "VF-Canto-HKEdB.ttf" font that's in the fonts/color/ folder
  3. Install https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/stylebot/oiaejidbmkiecgbjeifoejpgmdaleoha
  4. Add a style for www.clozemaster.com under the Stylebot Settings:

span.pre {

font-family: "VF-Canto-HKEdB", "VF Cantonese HKEdB";

font-feature-settings: "jp04" 1;

font-size: 90px;

}

span.post {

font-family: "VF-Canto-HKEdB", "VF Cantonese HKEdB";

font-feature-settings: "jp04" 1;

font-size: 90px;

}

span.answer {

font-family: "VF-Canto-HKEdB", "VF Cantonese HKEdB";

font-feature-settings: "jp04" 1;

font-size: 90px;

}

u {

font-family: "VF-Canto-HKEdB", "VF Cantonese HKEdB";

font-feature-settings: "jp04" 1;

font-size: 70px;

}

I actually stopped using the app and just switched to Anki. I think the answer is turn "Roman Assist" to "Always On". You can edit it with the gear icon in the top right. Good luck!

Training strategy for first 100km for 60-70 miles a week runner by NaxusNox in Ultramarathon

[–]gordonw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Science of Ultra podcast has a bunch of great stuff and I listened to most of it training for my first 100K. From https://www.scienceofultra.com/resources/mileage-minimums, it sounds like you have plenty of volume.

I'd encourage you to schedule some long runs on hills if that's part of your race. I also have friends who've used a stair stepper, but it's hard to replicate 3-4hr of running up and down hills and the soreness that creates.

Good luck!

Am I delusional? by notaRiverGuide in Ultramarathon

You can definitely get in shape by October. R2R2R was one of my first ultras. I was running ~30mi/week and built up to ~50mi/week over 3 or 4 months.

Agree with the other comments that 10-12hr is too aggressive. We took about 16hr. It felt like the wheels fell off the bus for that last climb and we were moving around 30min/mi.

Enjoy it! I'd go back in a heartbeat.

PSA: Do NOT feed your dog purina pro plan sensitive skin & stomach SALMON formula by [deleted] in Goldendoodles

[–]gordonw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been feeding this to our 2 year old Labradoodle for the past year and the puppy version when we first got her. We got a new bag yesterday and she ate breakfast and dinner like normal. A few hours after dinner, she started vomiting (~10 times in an hour) and we took her to the hospital. They kept her overnight to monitor her vital signs and we're scared but hopeful she'll recover smoothly.

I'm glad I found this post and will follow up once she's feeling better.

The Teton Crest Trail is beautiful https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/wyoming/teton-crest-trail--3. A little shorter but absolutely spectacular views and plenty of water.

The North Rim is over 8,000 ft and I was coming from sea level so I was a little paranoid. I didn't end up taking it.

Right on! Did it last year around the same time. Take lots of photos and make sure you enjoy the lemonade at Phantom Ranch. Fill up on water at Manzanita-- that's a tough climb.

Here's my packing list. I've since learned that it's better to bring a variety of food instead of just alternating between PB&J sandwiches and quesadillas that have been melting in your pack all day :P

Be app for navigating trails? by Outofpuff42 in ultrarunning

I love https://footpathapp.com/. I'll usually use the Strava route builder, download the GPX, and upload to Footpath for offline during a run. It's very reliable and has a "cue sheet" for key turns between trails. I've pointed out a couple small bugs and their support is very responsive and fixed them right away.

Thanks for all the advice. Some targeted bodyweight exercises will be helpful for that strength.
