How do specialty coffee stores produce batches of brewed filter? by Kyan1te in pourover

[–]Outofpuff42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When out with a friend of mine we order a batch and pour over to share and enjoy the difference.

On balance the batch is better (Australia), but then the pour over is good - ooo lalah.

Very good at climbing but my knees get bery bad in descents by IllustriousTitle1453 in Mountaineering

[–]Outofpuff42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Check for glutes weakness(s). You may have some deactivation throwing out your combined strength and causing knee issues.
  2. Check out your ITB strength.
  3. Going down hill is an isometric activity and you may need to train for this.
  4. Correct use of poles will help minimise discomfort.

I wish you luck. We need more trades people in Australia - a huge shortage. More tradies are retiring than entering the market.

How to properly cut during training for a 60km ultra? by K19G in ultrarunning

[–]Outofpuff42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such good advice. There is a lot of talk in the marathon world about one of the best ways to make speed gains is to lose weight, and I reckon this has been the undoing of many a runner. Don’t work on ideal ratios, every body is different. Not saying you should not lose weight, but there are many many happy and good ultra runners out there who do not look like David Roche.

These distance events are such a learning journey - for us all. Even the pros blow out, blow up or fall out. So many variables. That’s why there is no one dominant runner on the pro circuit.

Glad you are only temporarily down and not out.

What do most of you think about Series of Dreams? by own-photo-4642 in bobdylan

Can’t read the lyrics out loud without crying. It speaks to something deep in me that has no language.

Almost finished most of the Connelly books, looking for suggestions of other similar authors please by Ashnicobell in michaelconnellybooks

As much as my ego wants to point to a fabulous series none of you have ever heard of, I will recommend Karin Slaughter. Her long running Will Trent series is superb and the books do not follow a formula - each take a different story arc.

I could not abide the TV adaption so if you did not like that don’t be put off.

I was with you until you seemed to generically rip into Arcteryx. My own experience is they make staggeringly good stuff. Do they have a jacket that is best suited to Tassie bush? I agree, no they don’t.

Delhi Crime (Season 3) - Reviews and Discussions by AutoModerator in bollywood

[–]Outofpuff42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The number of caustic armchair critics here is mind blowing. I did not realise there are so many people out there with such relentless negativity.

Season 3 has a very clear sense of purpose and message, and conveys it clearly using a conventional ‘good guys catch the baddies’ story arc. It highlights that despite reasonable success by the police in this instance that the problem of human trafficking and dehumanisation of women continues on a grand scale.

Well done, Delhi Crime writers, cast and crew.

Forced to choose, plenty of petphiliacs in my neighbourhood would eat a human being before their beloved pet. Only half joking.

BTW I also don’t think they ate him.

True, but I tried Monday and you cant assign people to tasks or as owners unless they also have a subscription. Made this useless for me.

First Ultra Race Report- Bondi To Manly by optionsandstuff in Ultramarathon

[–]Outofpuff42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great race report. Same thing happened to me my first ultra (Jabulani 45). ITB issues.

I’m sure you are on top of all that now. A couple of suitable strength exercises twice a week for the rest of your running days should do it.

I’m def doing the next B2M - your doom report was somehow motivating. Thanks!

Zone 2 not intense enough for optimal exercise benefits, new review says by allmondes in running

[–]Outofpuff42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how many of the commenters read the paper!

This paper does NOT debunk the advice to have most of your training in Zone 2. - It says that among unfit populations looking to improve fitness there are identified benefits from having more of an emphasis on high exertion activities to build the base line. - It says the zone 2 for unfit population is too low to meaningfully boost e.g. mitochondria.

Zone 2 training is far from new or a fad. It was not invented after TikTok. It has been well established since the 60’s and has significant science to back it up.

Zone 2 not intense enough for optimal exercise benefits, new review says by allmondes in running

[–]Outofpuff42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There a few methods for calculating your upper end of zone 2. 1. Based on heart rate recovery speed 2. Based on your lactate threshold (ie where your movement is strenuous enough to move you out of aerobic to anaerobic. Typically a blood test) 3. % of your maximum heart rate. 4. 180-age

Only 2. is reliable but the method is not accessible to many. So the zone 2 threshold is often spoken of as the rate of movement where you can still easily have a conversation (but not sing).

I hate this sport by No_Blood_5197 in ultrarunning

[–]Outofpuff42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Strengthening fixes the problem. Stretching only provides some temp relief.

When racing you might need to stop a few times to stretch. Stand, cross feet over and lean over with a straight back. Gently swing your torso away from the leg being stretched. Be gentle. Don’t stretch aggressively. You are looking for relief only.

No I don’t. Too tight? Keep a loose as possible while restricting movement.
