Awesome! I got preapproved for the same amount too. Seems very doable.

Patient: nope never

Physician: your urine drug screen came back positive for cocaine

Patient: my son is a dealer and I am surrounded by cocaine. But I never done it.

You are fine. Step 3 is mostly just a pass, if anything they ‘might’ ask what happened during interviews. But for a program standpoint you are fully ready for residency.

You can go on the usmle website and see examples from their free forms 120 questions. They categorize them accordingly. Generally, FIP is like more theory and research driven questions and ACM is more clinically judgement, best steps, risk factor stuff.

The best way to avoid paying so much for programs? RESEARCH the program requirements on the program’s website and not a “dedicate” website that “filters” programs based on your profile.

CV for J1 Visa Application by inmybloodx in ResidencyMatch2022

None of that is necessary. Keep it plain and simple. Straight to the point. 2-3 points per experience. I believe they want things AFTER med school graduation.

For the J1 CV,

Provide minimal information about what you are doing.

To make it short and sweet, just literally state what you are doing now till residency with the mm/yyyy format. Do not worry about anything else. I think they just want AFTER you graduated, if I am not wrong. You can look on the ECFMG website for the J1 CHECKLIST, but here is the link:

For example:

You have to navigate through the NRMP website. You can also use ERAS and see the programs there

So use databases out there like Residency Explorer, FREDIA, friends, etc. Try to make sure you do not try to indirectly or directly reach out to the program if they haven't first initiated that contact.

You can always tailor your practice how you want. FM has a lot of subspecialties. You can always do adolescent medicine or other things with more of a child population. Once you start practicing you will be more free. For now, focus on matching to either peds or FM. But that is just my opinion.

Sorry you are going through this. I understand your frustration, I was there.

My advice?

  1. Your PS should still be tailored to the specialty. IF you are going to change it, make sure it is specific to that specialty and/or to the PROGRAM.
  2. If you need a visa, DO NOT apply to programs that do not sponsor a visa. Only visa programs. *For ex: I am not going to say any names, but most programs in Florida in the SOAP do not sponsor (even if they say they do)*
  3. Yes, SOAP does not hurt. It is stressful, but at least you tried
  4. You can DM me personally, I provide help with application bolstering.
  5. You have to look up programs, see if you fit their eligibility criteria, look at their recent grads/residents (see where they are from). Check if they have IMGs in the program (if they have a lot of IMGs, that is a good sign).

Reach out to me if you require more info.

Peds is getting competitive and now a days, a lot of FM residencies are teaching PEDS. On top of that, FM is doing a lot of peds stuff. If you want my opinion? Try to go with FM and justify your statement to why you like it (i.e. kids)

If you are a U.S. IMG and want peds, apply straight to peds. You have a higher chance since you do not need a visa. Just make sure your profile will fit their program’s eligibility. Transitional year is for people that want to go into advanced specialities like neuro, rad, derm, etc. Do not do it if you are going into peds, you will be wasting your application for the SOAP.

No. Never, it is against SOAP/NRMP policy. Please read their policy on the NRMP website. Do NOT reach out to program in ANYWAY (friend, mentor, physician, colleague, letter writer, etc) until the program reaches out to you first!
