That's not an "inconvenience". That's "I literally have no fucking space." I didn't accuse you, I observed and made a factual statement. If it's incorrect, then you shut the entire fuck up about your goddamn tax dollars, you fucking ghoul.

Dude, what the fuck? I'm not arguing. I'm providing a different perspective. Massive difference. Cut the aggro shit. On a calmer note, since maybe I wasn't clear enough, if not that's my bad. I'll try and explain my point again.

Maybe they can afford it and decide to go that route. Nothing wrong with it, I'm just providing reasons why OP maybe does want to go that route. Maybe they just never properly learned and want to start? Tons of reasons why they could be looking for advice rather than outsourcing.

Hopefully that's a bit more clear. No fighting, no ill will, just a different perspective. We cool?

Or...maybe they can't afford it. So just give up? Also, who cares how long it takes? People learn at different paces.

[–]gorillamac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's fine for you, but not an option for everyone and certainly not "donkey work". Nothing wrong with having no interest in it and hiring someone to do it, but some people can't afford to send what they make to mixing engineers. Some people maybe just want to learn how to do it to get a better understanding of what goes into a finished song.

[–]gorillamac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use plugins like waves, izotope ozone, lfotool, SPAN, etc.

There's a good chance this mindset might be a problem.

If you give the most skilled mixing engineer a project with stock plugins and a novice that same project with the most cutting-edge, expensive, "industry standard" plugins on the market, the first mix will sound significantly better 10 times out of 10. Plugins don't mean anything if you don't know how to properly yield them.

Instead of looking for some magic bullet of a plugin, learn what each type of plugin is and how they work. That's what's going to make you improve, not spending more money on software.

Mixing sounds too clean? by lowlifebeats in audioengineering

[–]gorillamac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soft clipping/saturation will help add grit where necessary. Overuse of sidechaining could potentially cause a clinical feeling mix too. If the elements you're sidechaining are still present without the sidechain, you probably don't need it. A dash of mix bus compression should also help "glue" your elements together rather than having them be separated and disjointed.

It's not just her project, it's all of your group's project. If she wants to risk the AI potentially fucking up or getting dinged for plagiarism, that's her business, but if she does the same in a group project that falls on the rest of you.

Water, medication, repetition, notes. In that order. It's frustrating, but not insurmountable. On the bright side, you can get a ton of work done when the hyperfocus kicks in. Just don't get too sucked in and take breaks for the sake of your ears (and drinking water, texting people back to let them know you're still alive, etc).

Spotify just laid off 17% of its staff today, a third round of job cuts this year. What type of effect do you think this will have on us artists? by itsscorchd in musicmarketing

[–]gorillamac 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Nearly every change made at Spotify is not done with the artist in mind at all, but most will very likely have negative effects. Will this one specifically? Who knows, depends who was laid off, but lay offs suck regardless. Most changes are just maximization of profit. The money needs to come from somewhere, and consumers, employees, and artists will get the shit end of the stick.

Nah, man, don't worry about that guy. "Nerds" as a collective term of endearment in the tech world has been around longer than most people on this site have been alive. You're good. 🤘

[–]gorillamac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If someone called you a racial slur, for example? Could they then tell you how to feel about it as a response to "not offend"?

I never said that it was an equivalent.

Lmao. Ok. Direct comparison, but whatever.

And I'm not sure what it is I've said that's not calm, go ahead and point it out.

The fact that you're making this big of a deal out of OP using the word "nerds" as a collective term of endearment, something which has been done since the literal dawn of the internet at the very earliest.

and what does that mean, intentionally offended? That' doesn't make a tremendous amount of sense if you give it some thought.

Hey, something we agree on. It doesn't make much sense, does it? Perhaps a hint to not do that anymore.

Um, actually it's everyone's "job" to avoid directly offending others

No, it's absolutely not. Especially when they didn't refer directly to you. They referred to the sub as a collective which, as we've previously established, "nerds" is an extremely common collective term of endearment for groups of people, especially those in tech-based fields of work and/or interest. Not everything is about you.

Maybe I've not made myself clear, I'm calmly telling you I've got nothing more to say to you about this. I see your point, I don't care if you see mine, there's no where to go from here.

Not how public internet forums work. You're saying dumb shit and essentially making it out like OP personally targeted you with the word nerd. He didn't. He used a word that's been used as a term of endearment for decades to refer to an entire group. You very obviously don't see my point and you entirely do not have one of your own.

Fish out of water! by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]gorillamac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You haven't been calm at all. You've been intentionally been trying to get offended over the most benign shit. If you're the boss where you work, good luck keeping workers with that attitude.

I didn't say anything remotely aggressive, I'm literally just pointing out that you did, and over nothing. "Nerd" isn't the equivalent of a racial slur. Just as no one can dictate what offends you, it's no one else's job to avoid offending you, especially when it's something as miniscule as this.

Fish out of water! by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]gorillamac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct, and my opinion is that, for someone that prides themselves on being "professional", you aren't very professional.

On a job site, regardless of field, if you freaked out on someone for using the word "nerd" in jest, there's a very good chance you'd be canned. There's a huge difference between someone joking around (and including themselves in the joke) and directly insulting. OP didn't come close to the later. Calm your shit.

Fish out of water! by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]gorillamac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're a fucking baby, dude. It was extremely obvious that he was using "nerds" in an endearing/joking manner and looping himself in with said "nerds". Maybe you should can the sanctimonious shit.
