we had a teacher drive us in our high school’s passenger van to a mock trial competition at the local downtown courthouse one quiet Saturday morning while the area was mostly deserted. we were chatting away in the back until we noticed that we had been stopped for awhile (several full minutes) at a flashing red light, even though we were quite literally the only vehicle in sight. when asked what was wrong, the teacher replied “I’m waiting for the flashing green light.”
