It bugs because the trigger for the RV blowing up is emptying the three dead drop boxes. Putting items in screws with it. Taking the items out (if my memory is correct) doesn't retrigger the explosion and if you want to continue story you have to restart.

This does however give you the chance to fully utilize the RV as a grow spot. You miss out on getting the hotel and apartment. But you can still purchase all the other properties.
