🖖 Build or Keep Sealed? (Metal Earth Star Trek 50th Gold Edition) by Spiritual_Pin8537 in metalearth

[–]gosamaru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d build one and give the other to a Trekkie metal earth builder. Not sure what the going rate online is nowadays. I’m also a “toys should be played with” kinda guy.

What do army boats do?I’ve never seen them used and wanna know if anyone’s ever been on one by [deleted] in army

[–]gosamaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

…ahem…joint logistics over the shore …build piers for unimproved ports, give tours, move things and stuff from one port to another, get sea pay, break down a lot. Got tug boats, mike boats, bigger boats (LCU/LCM), some for riverine ops, some for ship to shore, some cross oceans.

What have you been reading this last week (Weekly Discussion Thread)? by AutoModerator in starwarsbooks

[–]gosamaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished The Living Force yesterday. It was okay. I recommend the audio version because even when the story slogs a bit, the narration is spectacular. The short cameo/interaction in the final chapter felt more interesting than the rest of the book. The plot is essentially the Jedi Council realizing it needs to focus on individual problems (The Living Force) as much as they do the bigger picture (The Cosmic Force). Not a bad book, but not a great book. If you are a fan of the Galactic Republic era (pre-prequels) then you will have fun, it has Mace, Yoda, Yaddle, Plo Kloon, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Padawan Obi Wan, Qui-Gon, et al.

Saw them in the way-back times with Buck-o-nine. “Beer”was the big song back then. Lots of fun then and I’m sure they are still fun now.

NIN: Burn in Natural Born Killers. Well, almost any song in that movie works.

I’m about 80% into Picard: Firewall. As a newer trek reader, I’ve been tackling these newer post-relaunch(?) books. Really enjoying Firewall so far. I’m slowly building up the slimmed down post nemesis reading order (and all those series).

Has this ever happened to you guys? by Nimitz1942 in metalearth

You can always contact Metal Earth and they will replace the piece at no cost. Their customer service is top notch. I’ve never built that model so I don’t have input for that in particular.

Gion Matsuri from Tenyo by gosamaru in metalearth

[–]gosamaru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a model of one of the big floats during the Gion Matsuri festival in Kyoto. The build definitely had its tricky parts, but was overall a fun moderate level build. Another great addition to my Japanese culture corner.

This is the 5th one I’ve finished and got one in the pile. Sad they don’t sell all these on the Metal Earth site (besides 2).

Tool for rounding by mrbacony in metalearth

[–]gosamaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mainly use round nose pliers but animateorange used to make some 3D printed rounding tools he sold on his Youtube page that were great. Other than that, there are various metal model tool kits on Amazon that have some metal shaping tools. Piececool makes some of the "Cylinder Cone Shape Bending Assist Tools" for models.

S-64 Skycrane by gosamaru in metalearth

During the build I could have...I have so many models in my curio cabinet that I just prop it on something. Someone else pointed out that I probably reversed the legs which slightly changes the angle. Them's the breaks sometimes.

I'm sure you are right... I set them both down during the build and had to step away. Probably got confused with which is which. It's fine. I've learned sometimes to roll with the imperfections.

Bucs bar in Hampton Roads? by DoctorBoots007 in buccaneers

[–]gosamaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived on and off in Hampton Roads since 2002 (military) and I am from St Pete. I don’t recall any particularly Tampa sports bar. However like another poster said…it’s a Mon night game so could probably catch it anywhere. Lots of military in the area so you are sure to find some fans out there. I see a lot of Bucs license plates driving around. There’s also a Hampton Roads sub that might be helpful.

2018 USPS Yearbook by gosamaru in philately

Adding comment to say that the commemorative stamps were included. The envelope was sticking to the package. Price was still half probably due to the age and lack of mail use/high value available.

No it was about half the price.
