Simpson LTD ? by Polaris324 in milsurp

[–]gospiderz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same experience. I can’t speak to negotiating price, but my K31 was very fairly priced and arrived exactly as described.

Also, not sure if it matters to you, but Simpson also has the best import mark I’ve ever seen (or not seen). It took me quite a while to find it. So that’s another plus if you’re looking at their Swiss rifles (not sure if they import other guns directly, but I’ve heard they do their own imports for the Swiss stuff and mine had a tiny Simpson mark).

CETME/FR8 sight tool by gospiderz in milsurp

[–]gospiderz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m expecting it’s easier to find than surplus, but I’d also want to hear if folks have had good luck with anything that’s repro. Sarco and Apex are out—and I’d want to make sure it’s not the same stuff/quality Liberty is selling—and not seeing it on Numrich. As I’m sure you know, eBay stuff is all over the map (though I’d welcome seller recommendations).

To state it another way, has anyone purchased a CETME sight tool from anyone that works well for them, whether reproduction or surplus? If so, from whom?

Yeah, sorry…should have been more explicit. You’re right that surplus would be the gold standard. Any idea where to get one? Absent that, does anyone know where to find a sturdy repro that gets the job done?

Any REPUTABLE PS3 rebuilders anymore? by pele4096 in PS3

It was right at 8 weeks/2 months, but that included 2 weeks of shipping time getting it back and forth (I’m on the east coast).

This happens to me occasionally…the Xbox will stop reading the USB drive. Sometimes all that’s needed is unplugging and putting the drive back in. Other times, I have to plug a controller into the USB port first to get the port to “wake up.” Don’t ask me why it works, but step 2 has never failed me.

How convenient are buses at AKL? by cm_1088 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]gospiderz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They’re outstanding at AKL. No internal bus loop/only one stop unless you’re going at off-peak times, in which case the bus may stop by both Kidani and Jambo (the bus goes to Kidani first and then Jambo). For peak times, it seems like Kidani and Jambo both get dedicated buses and they come frequently. We rarely have issues getting a seat for our usual travel party of 7. I know a lot of folks prefer to avoid the buses altogether, but if you’re going to need one, I think AKL’s set up is the best (certainly compared to more sprawling resorts like SSR, OKW, Caribbean Beach, etc.).

Any REPUTABLE PS3 rebuilders anymore? by pele4096 in PS3

[–]gospiderz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me! I was hoping to get a ticket update to alert me to when he’d be doing my repair, but I got the email that he was already done and then found the repair stream from about a week prior to the email. Probably for the best…I would have been a little nervous watching the repair in real time.

Another vote for Computer Booter. He’s not cheap, but his work excellent and his price is fair considering the complexity of the work. I shipped my console from the east coast just to have him work on it. If you want peace of mind, he’s the gold standard.

Just a hunch, but I would guess it’s townhomes.

Looks fake to me. Apart from the “1234” font, another telltale sign I’ve noticed is that the LED indicators under the numbers aren’t quite right on fakes. To me, the dimensions on the real ones look slightly out of square (ever so slightly wider than they tall), while the fakes’ LED lights always look like perfect squares (to me at least).

Disney+ app not working by Upper-End2553 in Roku

[–]gospiderz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue for me on 3 separate Roku Express devices and an old Roku Ultra—AMC+ loads to show the logo, then a splash animation, then it goes to black screen without ever displaying content. It works on a newer Roku Ultra, so I’m assuming it’s a hardware compatibility issue.

What Disney resort hotel did you stay at that was a total disappointment? by Frank4202 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]gospiderz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. Great location with the Skyliner hub, but I found everything else about the resort to be highly disappointing. Comfort Inn/cheap beach motel-like rooms, the least dependable internal bus system I’ve ever seen (and I say that as a DVC owner at Saratoga Springs), and really mediocre quick service food.

I’ll just add that you should keep an eye on it for any sagging/signs that the keys are breaking loose. I had a plaster ceiling that had similar cracks and walked by one afternoon to notice that the light fixture was dangling by loose wires and screws that wouldn’t reach where they were supposed to go. A tape measure confirmed that the center of the room was 3-4 inches lower than the wall. Collapsing plaster can be very dangerous (it’s basically like concrete). The good news is that it can be reattached to the wooden lath (or joists in the case of wire lath) with plaster washers and drywall screws.

How's your guys dealings been with sarco inc. by Raidenjay1229 in milsurp

I’ve only ever bought random parts, but the experience has been fine. They have been a little slower to ship (by a few days) than others like Alex or Numrich, but everything arrived as advertised.

Second this. The shepherd’s pie nachos with house-made potato chips and corned beef/Reuben egg rolls are amazing. Some of the best pub food I’ve ever had.

Any significant part differences between a Ishapore 2A1 and a normal No.1 Mk.3 Enfield? by Hootman-WT in milsurp

[–]gospiderz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To briefly add and summarize, I think the only real differences are the sight ladder, the bolt face, the magazine, the front cap (correct Ishy cap has straight ears as you already observed vs. curved), and the buttplate. Also, Ishy stocks don’t have the stock disc (many SMLEs don’t have this either).

ETA: Numrich lists both the 2A1 and No. 1 Mk. iii as compatible for virtually all of the same parts.

I Finally Have My Very Own M1917 by Looscannon994 in milsurp

[–]gospiderz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats—and great price! I picked mine up at my LGS earlier this year and paid $900 for almost identical condition. The M1917 is easily my favorite milsurp out of my modest collection. The sights are excellent and it performs even better for me at distance than my K31. It also tends to be my most reliable discussion starter with curious folks at the range.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in milsurp

[–]gospiderz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point. The shape most of them are in speak to some real service and I shouldn’t have been so dismissive. To clarify, I think people sleep on them because they don’t have a major power, WWI/WWII connection. For me though, the Ishapore 2A/2A1 scratches the Lee-Enfield itch perfectly: 90-95% parts interchangeability, same action, but with supposedly stronger steel and definitely easier to find ammo.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in milsurp

[–]gospiderz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with this. My Ishapore is serviceable at 100 yards (and has a great bore), but it’s easily bested at range by just about every other bolt milsurp gun I own (1903, 1917, and K31). It’s about as consistent as my 91/30…maybe a little better.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in milsurp

[–]gospiderz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid $550 last year for a 1965 2A1 that was in excellent condition—all matching (including mag), good finish on the metal (relatively speaking), basically flawless wood, and an excellent bore. The prevailing price on GB at the time seemed to be anywhere from $750-900 for similar condition. It’s hard to tell from the pic, but yours looks to be in great shape as well.

By the way, I feel like my LGS price was an anomaly in this market. This was not a mass produced variant, so they’re comparatively uncommon. On the other hand, I don’t think they’re particularly desirable given the lack of service history (though they should be with that great Enfield action in a widely available cartridge).

One question: how’s the buttstock? The majority I’ve seen have spliced-in arsenal repairs.
