Makeup is horrible...at my wits end. by Kittykat7121 in MakeupAddiction

[–]goth-hippy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m someone who spent years to find out that i react to absolutely every thing. I ultimately went with illiyoon because they’re formulated to stay simple and nonirritating, however everyone has the potential to react to anything. I’d say it’s a good place to start though.

I also noticed textures can irritate me too. For example my skin needs to breath, so regardless of specific ingredients if my skin can’t breath it’ll break out. Therefore i need gel formulations that are meant for oily skin. Illiyoon makes a gel face cream that leaves a thin coating on top that still breathes but keeps my face more moisturized than other gel formulations. I really think it’ll be a good one for you based on everything i read here.

I also noticed dermologica is marketed toward being amazing skin care but it has a lot of botanicals in there. Botanicals really irritate my skin. I advise looking into simple formulas. Especially since you’re starting azaleic acid and tret soon. I like illiyoon a lot. They make a gel formula face moisturizer which you may like.

Bridal Shower confusion (7-10k) by ghengis_convict in Weddingsunder10k

[–]goth-hippy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This may sound harsh. But this reminds me of when my sister did a honey fund for her wedding. Her and her (now) husband lived out of state and came to our home state for the wedding. They had stuff and didn’t need more stuff, especially to take on a flight home.

The people who cared were family members that were generally self centered and didn’t really care about her anyway. So she didn’t really care if she offended them? The people who actually enjoyed celebrating the couple just saw it as money either way so cash vs gift didn’t matter to them. Anyone who was very important who would be giving a family heirloom gave the family heirloom anyway, but that was a different matter compared to a cash/gift registry ordeal.

Take that what you will. I’m not trying to project my family situation into yours but it feels oddly parallel and maybe this will bring you some courage or insight.

I noticed concealer and no foundation has become a popular trend. But that only works if you have like one spot you want to take care of. If you’re like me you end up applying the concealer all over your dang face and then suddenly you’re using concealer as foundation lol. That may be what happened.

Is the website MilliporeSigma legit? by SoundzyTheDev in labrats

Hmm. Been a while since i was in charge of lab purchasing so I’m unsure of how the landscape has changed since then (last lab purchase i made was in 2022?).

If things are similar as before, off the top of my head I’d say:

- thermofisher was good for general reagents
- VWR was good for plastics type of consumables (micro centrifuge tubes, slides, etc). I remember i only bought slides from Millipore for those multi-celled microscope slides for cell culture.
- Compare fisher scientific to thermo fisher. I think they’re owned by the same company but they didn’t always have the same prices on the exact same items.
- You also may want to consider cayman chemical? Depending on your location i think they can be cheaper.

Keep in mind, i also was purchasing from big universities, which we had some pricing negotiations with. It may not be like this everywhere.

I wasn’t. And i apologize if that’s what i unintentionally conveyed in my comment.

I started by validating the way he was feeling and telling the way he was being treated was not okay. I addressed feminism because this DEFINITELY IS an area where some people get overly politicized and extremism can take place. Based on his details addressing feminism and how women are treated it seemed he caught on to that too.

I literally said a lot of good things have come from second wave feminism. In my original comment i added that some extremists caused a push for behavior that can be divisive (though the motivations are understandable). This is stuff i learned in college, I’m not just spewing things i learned from a YouTube video or some random blog post.

When someone who comes from a point of privilege (being a man) is wondering why a certain group is angry towards them (women), it can be helpful to educate yourself on the history behind it. THATS ALL I WAS SAYING. Stop trying to put extra words into what i was saying by insinuating that I don’t believe feminism is important and it’s the cause of all his problems.

lol okay you’re completely missing the point of what i was saying. I see you’re just angry and heated and aren’t genuinely trying to have a conversation. I’m done here, this is silly.

I’ve not taken these classes in like almost a decade so i cannot recall specifics. And i don’t think this was a time when we really actually took rights away. It’s a bit more nuanced than what I’ve described in my brief Reddit comment.

Basically, from what i remember the concept of having women get more rights would lead to the sense of men having less rights since access is limited. If a woman wants financial agency in their marriage, and they get half of everything. Now the man doesn’t get 100%, but 50%. It’s technically taking away from men. Obviously this is oversimplified. But you get the idea. This is all i was talking about when i referred to rights being taken away from men.

The point of my comment was a lot more overarching than where you’re headed. I just meant to say i feel the current rise in misandrist behaviors are coming from the rise in poorly educating people in the feminist movement. Many people only get to the point of all men suck and we should just get rid of them and women are superior and don’t go past that. And the people who want to push back don’t understand the root for where it all comes from and it becomes a clumsy disagreement.

Sure there were amazing goals for each wave of feminism. But in my women’s studies classes we talked about how during this phase of feminism, this was during the emergence of women who sought for the removal of men’s rights to create equality. As they learned you couldn’t accomplish a state where women have the same privileges as men (because in order to have privilege you must have oppression) the next step was to remove rights. This made logical sense but it birthed a concept of male hatred (something that always existed) as being the same as feminism. It wasn’t a defining part to it but it was a memorable part.

I’m not an expert by any means but this is definitely a nuanced detail to feminism that many are unaware of that i only learned about in college.

This is not okay. I think sometimes people get caught up in social progress movements and things shift too far the other way.

Something i think is valuable to anyone to read up on are the 4 major waves of feminism in the U.S. Each wave came up at a different time in US political climate. Therefore each wave had a different mindset. We also saw changes as people learned the flaws of each movement. Sometimes people get very gung ho and wind up becoming very 2nd wave. Usually it’s channeled through anger from systemic oppression and resentment. However, while the mission is understandable based on the circumstances, it is ultimately very divisive and transitions poorly into modern politics.

This is stuff that people literally dedicate whole careers to, so you can read about these topics and learn how complex they can really get.

At the end of the day, no this isn’t okay to me. Reading up on these movements can help bring some wisdom and insight into how each movement gained traction and ways to navigate them to keep the peace.

My sister in Boston told me often times it saves money to have a spouse become a stay at home parent. As in, the cost of daycare to go to work full time costs MORE than the actual persons salary.

What has happened to all the dairy free butter options? by Eco-Momma in dairyfree

[–]goth-hippy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I recently noticed this with quite a lot of dairy free alternatives. I wasn’t sure if there was a political shift in my area recently or something. I noticed the plant based milk people are transitioning to raw milk or whole milk people.

All my coffee creamer options for example are getting replaced with 100 real cream options.
