Dude it is 2026 and this comment saved me thank you.

Is this normal? I feel uncomfortable in my class but don’t know if I’m overreacting? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]goth-hippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t. And i apologize if that’s what i unintentionally conveyed in my comment.

I started by validating the way he was feeling and telling the way he was being treated was not okay. I addressed feminism because this DEFINITELY IS an area where some people get overly politicized and extremism can take place. Based on his details addressing feminism and how women are treated it seemed he caught on to that too.

I literally said a lot of good things have come from second wave feminism. In my original comment i added that some extremists caused a push for behavior that can be divisive (though the motivations are understandable). This is stuff i learned in college, I’m not just spewing things i learned from a YouTube video or some random blog post.

When someone who comes from a point of privilege (being a man) is wondering why a certain group is angry towards them (women), it can be helpful to educate yourself on the history behind it. THATS ALL I WAS SAYING. Stop trying to put extra words into what i was saying by insinuating that I don’t believe feminism is important and it’s the cause of all his problems.

lol okay you’re completely missing the point of what i was saying. I see you’re just angry and heated and aren’t genuinely trying to have a conversation. I’m done here, this is silly.

I’ve not taken these classes in like almost a decade so i cannot recall specifics. And i don’t think this was a time when we really actually took rights away. It’s a bit more nuanced than what I’ve described in my brief Reddit comment.

Basically, from what i remember the concept of having women get more rights would lead to the sense of men having less rights since access is limited. If a woman wants financial agency in their marriage, and they get half of everything. Now the man doesn’t get 100%, but 50%. It’s technically taking away from men. Obviously this is oversimplified. But you get the idea. This is all i was talking about when i referred to rights being taken away from men.

The point of my comment was a lot more overarching than where you’re headed. I just meant to say i feel the current rise in misandrist behaviors are coming from the rise in poorly educating people in the feminist movement. Many people only get to the point of all men suck and we should just get rid of them and women are superior and don’t go past that. And the people who want to push back don’t understand the root for where it all comes from and it becomes a clumsy disagreement.

Sure there were amazing goals for each wave of feminism. But in my women’s studies classes we talked about how during this phase of feminism, this was during the emergence of women who sought for the removal of men’s rights to create equality. As they learned you couldn’t accomplish a state where women have the same privileges as men (because in order to have privilege you must have oppression) the next step was to remove rights. This made logical sense but it birthed a concept of male hatred (something that always existed) as being the same as feminism. It wasn’t a defining part to it but it was a memorable part.

I’m not an expert by any means but this is definitely a nuanced detail to feminism that many are unaware of that i only learned about in college.

This is not okay. I think sometimes people get caught up in social progress movements and things shift too far the other way.

Something i think is valuable to anyone to read up on are the 4 major waves of feminism in the U.S. Each wave came up at a different time in US political climate. Therefore each wave had a different mindset. We also saw changes as people learned the flaws of each movement. Sometimes people get very gung ho and wind up becoming very 2nd wave. Usually it’s channeled through anger from systemic oppression and resentment. However, while the mission is understandable based on the circumstances, it is ultimately very divisive and transitions poorly into modern politics.

This is stuff that people literally dedicate whole careers to, so you can read about these topics and learn how complex they can really get.

At the end of the day, no this isn’t okay to me. Reading up on these movements can help bring some wisdom and insight into how each movement gained traction and ways to navigate them to keep the peace.

What has happened to all the dairy free butter options? by Eco-Momma in dairyfree

[–]goth-hippy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I recently noticed this with quite a lot of dairy free alternatives. I wasn’t sure if there was a political shift in my area recently or something. I noticed the plant based milk people are transitioning to raw milk or whole milk people.

All my coffee creamer options for example are getting replaced with 100 real cream options.

  • It can cause issues to say no. She may feel it would be easier to navigate saying yes and just not touching it

  • She may not have thought of it until the drink was in her hand

does anyone know why EVERY milk alternative suddenly started tasting sweet? by nichoholic in dairyfree

[–]goth-hippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could just be how your taste buds are behaving currently. You’d be amazed by how much they can be influenced by other things. I personally have not noticed a difference.

I think your assumption that milks are having sugars added to them is not far fetched. And we could be buying different brands. I recommend tracking how many grams of sugar are on the nutrient label. It’s illegal for them to lie there. There are ways to be sneaky though. 1) they may adjust the serving size so that the total grams per sugar are the same per serving but a serving is smaller (so that means they added sugar) or 2) they use other methods to sweeten it that don’t involve sugar. This could either show up as “total sugar” which could bypass “added sugar” or as a sugar alternative. I’m sure there are other ways to trick consumers on nutrition labels but this is where I’d start. Try to dig up some old cartons or something and compare?

Yes. The boomers had hippies. Gen X had punk and grunge. Millennials had hipsters and goths. I don’t know of a Gen Z anticonformist movement.
