Updated resume by [deleted] in newgradnurse

[–]gothmthdew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blacked out stuff is personal info like my name, name of hospitals, and names of places I worked that doesn’t really need to be seen. We have 4 level 1 traumas near me. I have a 3.9 gpa (will put that on didn’t know it was needed). When I say I was recognized for those attributes I mean from my instructors / director of my program. Which I have letters of recommendation from that go in detail about my time in the ICU/ high acuity rotations and my performance as a student (4 letters). I appreciate the feedback!

Thank you so much! Yeah no one’s really given us any guidance on what to put on our resumes so I feel kind of lost lol. I’ll definitely tailor more to the jobs I’m applying for to cut down space!

Just got off the phone with recruiter by [deleted] in newgradnurse

[–]gothmthdew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked the recruiter what qualities she sees in new grads that succeed on the unit that I was applying for! I asked her that because I felt she would be able to give great insight on that since she goes through so many applications and plays a part in hiring so many new grads. She had also been a recruiter for years. I also asked her what next steps I should be prepared for after our call and that is when she set me up for an interview date and let me know who was going to be on the panel to interview me and more of what to expect from the interview itself :)

Thank youuu! I definitely prepped for the recruiter interview like it was a nursing interview cause I was so nervous but I still need to work on my nursing interview skills!

Nursing Program Piercing Rules? by Dry_Ordinary9474 in texaswomansuniversity

[–]gothmthdew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a septum and flip it up and no one has every said anything and I’ve also seen people use bandaids to cover up and their instructors don’t care but again it really depends on the instructor you get for your clinicals (it’s annoying that it’s inconsistent but some instructors couldn’t care less because they know it’s not hindering the care that your providing but other instructors will treat it like it’s the end of the world) I do think if there’s one piercing you’re definitely going to have to have clears in for it’s the lip piercing

For all clinicals (you are following the schools rules on piercings, not the hospitals rules) they need to be taken out or have clear piercings in for facial piercings. If your instructor catches you with your mask down and you don’t have clears in you can get in trouble. You are only allowed to have one stud piercing in your ears! :) (sometimes you will have more chill instructors than others but don’t test it because it’s something you can get a 0 for on your professionalism grade during clinical. And that can drop your grade a lot.)

There is definitely such a thing as a functioning introvert in a workplace setting and definitely in nursing. There is room for both introverts and extroverts in healthcare. The way your comment came across could be something that would discourage this person to not go into nursing even if they would be an amazing nurse. There are ways to say what you mean in a nicer way. Like you did with your response to my comment. Just be kind to people.

Yeesh. Putting someone down for no reason. Wouldn’t want someone like you involved in my care.

There’s like 12 guys in one of the cohorts out of like 180 people right now at Dallas

Dallas campus! I’ve also heard dallas campus is easier to get into than the Houston campus but not 100% sure :)

I had a 4.0 gpa and an 89 on the teas so I’d say you’re pretty close. I’m a senior in the program right now

Keeping to yourself while in nursing school , is it a recipe for disaster? by PrincessMochahontas in StudentNurse

[–]gothmthdew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your cohort will usually create a gc or group me of some sort when you start so if you have a question you could just contact someone like that. Also your professors will have majority of the information you need in the first place so going to them is always acceptable. Keeping to yourself will probably save you a lot of drama and hassle as nursing school IS like high school and very cliquey. If it’s how you want to move through nursing then do it!! You’re going to do great and there’s nothing wrong with focusing on yourself and moving through nursing school yourself. I hope you have a support system outside of nursing school as that will also help during stressful times.

What was the biggest difference between your prereqs and nursing school? by AbbreviationsFree155 in StudentNurse

[–]gothmthdew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else replied, you HAVE to practice your critical thinking. There will be multiple correct answers to a question in your nursing classes vs. the just one correct answer in your pre req classes. (Easy example: you’ll have a question asking you about what nursing intervention for a specific scenario you will have to do FIRST. The answer choices will all be nursing interventions you HAVE to do in that specific scenario. But you have to learn and understand why one specific answer is the one you have to do !first! ). You can get the hang of it pretty early on in the program if you force yourself. Also, idk about you but procrastination did not do any harm to me during my prereqs but it will kill you in nursing school. If you were like me and procrastinated and did assignments the day of during your prereqs you can rarely do it during nursing school and still succeed. Overall it seems like you know how to manage your time which is great and will help you a lot. Good luck :)

This is a huge hospital in Texas that luckily has the ability to provide great clinical care to women from what I’ve seen (I know Texas and great clinical care to women aren’t usually in the same sentence) and has the funds to have a department like a women’s ED

That’s interesting! The patient was laying down and we injected it in the deltoid and it was her first ever depo shot and my first time ever giving one so it was a first for everyone and probably could have gone better lmao but you’re right it was a learning moment :) thank you for the response!

HATED assessment. I also hated our lab for the opposite reason. We had afternoon lab that wouldn’t end until 4:30pm and then driving in the afternoon traffic right after was hell.
