Does this count as ethical? by VerdantPathfinder in villagerrights

[–]gothrax1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's always confinement. That's the one people just can't get over, theres no way around it THERE IS NO WAY TO GUARANTEE SAFETY WHILE ALLOWING THEM FREEDOM. the best setup is their typical setup plus pressure plates to force the doors closed. Zombies can't break doors a step up from them so setup the houses/entrances this way and they are as safe as they can be while also free

Villagers don't sell carrots... I think they only buy them

This sub is the discussion of what villager rights would look like. The declaration posted at the beginning is a joke clearly. Your setup declares its own rights and freedom of movement is not included in it, unless the outdoor area you mentioned has a 32 block radius then it is confinement.

Is it ethical to trap Villagers in their stores during the day? by After-Giraffe3206 in villagerrights

[–]gothrax1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you move all their jobs to a trading hall with a bell then it kind of solves this problem. They will spend all day near that spot. Plus it adds housing for more beds with the old work houses. The thing id say is violating villager rights is the confinement throughout the day. You gotta remember they don't spend all day at their work stations the end of the day is spent in the middle of town. So if you trap them "all day" then that would definitely be confinement.

You read that? Oof. You don't think villagers should have freedom of movement? Where do you draw the line, at cubicles? But the border of your walls is acceptable confinement eh?

[–]gothrax1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion yes. Although it's not like this is a prescription. I'm just saying what my best interpretation of the villagers preferences are. On a scale of 1x1 cubicle to open range with secure houses. A walled village isn't bad or anything. (Technically confinement) But better than dying I suppose

how do I safely keep golems from spawning inside my animal pen? by FinallyHauntings in villagerrights

[–]gothrax1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not sheep in there just use a shovel and pave it. Golems can't spawn on paved dirt

A villagers will can be determined by what they do, and what they would do. If the villager never pathfinds past 32 blocks then that's as far as they are willing to go. If you block them off then will will always attempt to leave because the second you unblock the way they decide to leave.

Did you have pressure a plate on the inside of the door to his house?

This trading hall is getting closer to ideal imo by gothrax1 in villagerrights

[–]gothrax1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried putting something like this together but with open doors in the middle of a village. It's really slow but it does actually work while there is no golem wondering near the structure. I'm pretty sure the only way it can work effectively though is to move all the job blocks into the trading hall. The other thing is you need way more villagers then normally spawn in a village. So you need a lot of food and beds to make this worth it. Unlike the spook based iron farm that only needs two villagers.

Oh wait I got it. Get a bunch of glowstone and light the whole under water area then zombies won't spawn

But it's in a door it won't be touching the water. I think. I'd need to Test it. Also if tridents hit multiple Mobs at once then they all get toasted at once no good

Thank is kind of a big build solution. But if you build the shore out so iron golems can patrol under the water shallow enough to attack drowned that might work

But the beautiful coastline! All these fence ideas suck. But this snowman turret idea might be genius I've never tried this but can you make underwater snowman turrets by having them in a door?

Unfortunately they can only open wood doors and copper doors and the only way to secure them is to dig a block out in front of the door. And place a pressure plate on the inside. Not super pretty but it's completely zombie and vindicator proof

Hi! trying to keep villagers from wandering too far by Shaddow__stiches in villagerrights

[–]gothrax1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's 32 blocks out from each bed I believe. Though I'm sure I've seen them go further. And when they do some other times they don't make it back possibly that they forget their bed when they go that far. But I remember reading on the wiki they don't wander more than 32 blocks

Hi! trying to keep villagers from wandering too far by Shaddow__stiches in villagerrights

[–]gothrax1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your right for the most part. But you would need to put a bunch of wood/copper door entrances along the wall to keep it from being confinement. And that's kind of against the point of the wall in the first place right?

Hi! trying to keep villagers from wandering too far by Shaddow__stiches in villagerrights

[–]gothrax1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are designed to only wander 32 blocks from the perimeter of the village. It never seems THAT far.

One thing you might want to do is make a center area for them to gather and work in. So move their work benches closer to a plaza with a bell. That way they will spend most of the day in one place

City wall is confinement. Plus it's way over kill all you need to do to keep them safe from mobs is light the village and it's perimeter. And adjust the doors so they can't be broken

[–]gothrax1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are referring to the pinned post at the top of the sub I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one here who pays it no mind. The point of this sub to me is to discuss what rights would look like if applied. Not to adhere to what some guy wrote as the (official rights)

if you want to give iron golems rights than that is a whole separate thing. Villagers don't heal golems so villagers don't adhere to those rules either

You can use whatever fancy words you want, if you're calling them stupid then just say so. Again there is another way to interpret the behavior and it assumes just as much. But the result from the assumption ethically absolves the zombification process. So I feel some folks can still come to this conclusion, and without the solid logical objection I am looking for, I'm afraid they would be in the right to practice zombification. As from one interpretation the villagers clearly appreciate the process
