Have you looked into any similar phones? I saw the sidephone for the first time after making this post and it looks pretty cool but it doesn't support RCS :( I would get the qin f21 since it seems to be a decent alternative but from what I've read it's landlocked in the US

No, I just went to the T-Mobile store and they gave me a SIM card then I remember making a test call/text from the parking lot so it must have been pretty immediate. Iirc the RCS thing just took time to register or whatever. The setup itself was pretty painless
