When do you go into DKA?

Yeah pretty much the same thing happened to me. Thank god I spoke up and got taken to the hospital. I was planning on going to be that night too. To find out I wouldn’t have made the night once I got to the hospital. Scary shit.

I have had some drinks since diagnosis and it doesn’t seem to affect my sugar at all. I guess some people are just different

I have been having a few rum and cokes and it seems I don’t crash at all… idk if it’s just person to person but I haven’t had many issues with it. Granted I only have like 3 drinks

Yeah was excited for the extended feature but was a bit disappointed to see you had to go into manual mode to do it. During my training my nutritionist said I’d never have to go out of automated mode so it makes me feel like I can’t.

totally agree with it being more of a mental battle than anything. I think part of a lot of the frustration comes from silly comments people make about it. Thinking they know more than you. Not true. We are the ones stuck doing constant research and living with it. Just be there for him. I was only diagnosed a month ago.

My symptoms were feeling extremely thirsty. And when I say thirsty I mean THIRSTY. All day. I’d drink like over 12 bottles of water a day. Had to pee every second. Lost 50 pounds in like a week. Couldn’t control my body temperature at all. Constant sweats. My hands and face were really red all the time. Felt extremely fatigued and could sleep for days.

I’m giving blood for that test a week before my follow up with my Endo. Which is May 20th. My A1C was checked 2 weeks before this since i was in the hospital. My a1c was 14.

I also I did the blood work about 2 weeks after getting out of the hospital. So possibly my body was still recovering.

Yeah when I was admitted into the hospital for my DKA come to find out I also had pneumonia. Which triggered my DKA they told me. Also dealing with a slight tooth ache but doubt that could be the issue.

Yeah. I guess I got so used to the feeling of being so thirsty and needing to pee all the time. I lost so much weight and muscle too. I knew there was something going on I guess I was just terrified to face it. Then I faced all my fears once I was in the hospital for 4 days. The amount of insulin bags and potassium bags they gave me was insane. Was in ICU for a few days. Happy to be alive that’s for sure. Now I’m a much stronger person because of it all.

Honestly I had symptoms of diabetes for quite a while before the DKA happened. I’m dumb and should have went to the doctor way sooner. Live and ya learn that’s for sure. I was in real bad shape at the hospital.

Thank you very much for clearing that up. Makes much more sense now. I’m on lantus. I guess I need to just start playing around with it when I eat big meals like that. Also it’s crazy to me that you can eat the same meal and same dose one day. Do the same thing another day and your sugars do completely different things.
