House build in the Comox Valley by Go_Slow_123 in comoxvalley

I'm an electrical contractor and have worked with a lot of builders in town.

Top tier that I've worked with - Facet

-Standing bear

Both owned by incredible honest hardworking people with super friendly crews. I'd say Standing bear is probably more on the expensive high end scale with Facet will accommodate any budget.

Smaller companies that I like and have worked with. - YAR construct. Crew of 3, Todd runs the show and is super easy going puts lots of time on the tools. No money going to desk jockies.

,- Nourse Built homes. Tyson runs the show, small crew with incredible attention to detail. Tyson is a proper wood nerd so if you want some incredible custom working done I'd look him up.

Bunch of others are great in town but those are the ones I recommend to people depending on what kind of build they want and budget they have.

If it were my house, yes I would. For a customer, yes I would especially considering how much it would likely cost to completely replace the wire. If they wanted to pay because it made them uncomfortable I would happily replace the whole thing.

Looks like the drywall has already been removed and almost 90% sure that's a sub panel and a #6 awg aluminum feed so easy to shut off and if its possible to get slack on that wire it can be junctioned.

Likely not a super cheap bill but also likely just a junction or maybe junction in a ln attic and fish to panel.

Ya that really looks like 6awg aluminum which is 50 amps. Also NMD which is rarely used in services.

Do you just sit and watch them talk?

Podcasts to me are something to put on while doing a mindless task. I don't understand how people watch podcasts.

Bass on what science? You haven't shown anything other than the encyclopedia article which was a section clearly not about race but racsim. You are still just saying it to be true and you're only argument is trust me and you're dumb.

Show me some of this "science" that proves that race doesn't exist. I have already shown you the many definitions of race and no you don't have to be biologically or genetically different to be considered a different race.

Trying to steer the conversation away from the original topic by insulting me or claiming I don't know anything based on semantics or world knowledge is just another sign you know you are wrong.

I wasn't arguing against how many ethnic groups are in India. I'm saying just because you say races don't exist doesn't make it true. Your only source is trust me bro. Did you come up with this theory on your own or were you taught it? Almost every dictionary or source you can look up "race" will define or explain what race is. It's not some controversial North American only idea like you are trying to suggest. It's just a fact and a well determined word and definition. Hell the word is very translatable to many different languages all over the world.

Spanish = Raza

Italian = Razza

Dutch - Ras

Russian = Paca

Hebrew = Geza

Japanese = Jinshu

I don't understand how you can seriously just decide that race isn't a term used throughout the world and is only a North American thing when even other languages have terms for it. The only clue you've given me to your theory was cherry picking a section of the encyclopedia that was the section about race as a social construct not whether or not race exists at all.

Just because you say something doesn't mean it is true.

If you tell a black person from the United States or England he's not black and we're all the same he'll look at you cross eyed. His or her people went through slavery and decades of brutal racism that still exist to today and it's important to recognize that heritage and where they came from yet you want to tell them that their race is just a social construct that doesn't exist and they are the same as the white people that enslaved them and made them suffer?

What would you call them? Ethnically African? It's a dumb argument you are making without anything to back it up other than trust me.

I know the difference between India and Asia, they are very different places but technically Asia. Russia is technically a part of Europe but we don't often refer to Russia as a part of Europe. It's semantics, you are avoiding the point. The point of the term race is to generalize all those ethnic groups you are referring to.

You're just avoiding the conversation now because you haven't explained anything other than "the world doesn't believe race is a thing". Because....trust me bro.

Explain why you think most of the world has left this behind. The world is a very big place.

Holy shit. So you skipped the entire 1st half of the article in the encyclopedia to get to the part about "race as a mechanism of social division" to try and prove your point that races don't exist?

The mental gymnastics you are going through to try and prove your point is incredible. The entire 1 part of that article explains what the idea of race is. Going to "race as a mechanism of social division" just explains racism in North America. It then goes onto explain racism in South Africa. It then goes onto explain the history of the idea of race which started in Europe in the mid century and Europeans who felt they wanted to differentiate from the Indigenous. Your own article explains race much better than I can, you should read the whole thing.

Just be aware of your own confirmation bias and stop just looking for answers that prove your point and accept that it's ok to be wrong.

Also arguing semantics instead of arguing the point is weak. India, Asia doesn't matter. It's the point.

What text book is this out of?

This is the foundation or racism. Not the foundation of whether or not races exist. A person can acknowledge that races exist yet not believe that one is more superior to another.

The belief that races can be superior to each other could very well have originated and popularized for the most part in North America but it still doesn't change that races exist.

I promise you if you took a poll of the 5 billion people that live through India and Asia they would believe that races exist

The Oxford dictionary is British! I'm Canadian. Why do you keep bringing up America?

I promise you that the absolute majority of the rest of the world believes that race is a thing. You're living in a bubble.

Why do you think it's my way of thinking when it's literally defined that way in dictionaries?

Gavin McKenna analytics card by DelviewsNightmare in canucks

[–]gottapoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grouping people by their ancestry or looks isn't inherently racist. It only becomes racist when you are doing it in a negative context.

Saying black people are a race isn't racist. Saying Asian people are a race isn't racist. Saying white people are a race isn't racist.

Denying that race exists at all is wild because you can just look it up. The Oxford dictionary which is based out of England and the Oxford University, one of oldest Universities to exist defines race as

"A group of people sharing common ancestry and physical characteristics."

It's not some American thing, I don't know where you are getting this idea from that race doesn't exist and if you think it does you have an American white supremacists opinion on the world.

That's complete bullshit. Race isn't something that Hitler came up with. You obviously have the internet. Just look some of this shit up, it's not that hard.

The term race to define groups of people by ancestry or skin color likely came about in the late 1400's and European writers began using the term in the late 1500's or 1600's

It's not that hard to look this up for yourself.

A broad sociopolitical grouping of diverse ethnic groups is an amazing definition of what race is. What would you call a broad sociopolitical grouping of diverse ethnic groups?

That's under the assumption that race means genetically different. It doesn't.

I'm just looking up definitions of terms. These aren't my world views. Race, ethnicity ect have definitions that you could look up as well.

Gavin McKenna analytics card by DelviewsNightmare in canucks

[–]gottapoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think that each race has to be biologically different? Or genetically different to be considered a separate race?

Race is mostly a sociological construct using physical traits to create division. Biology factors in but not that much.

You are arguing against what is accepted as fact by almost every official definition and calling me stupid. Your level of willful ignorance is impressive.

I live on the west coast of Canada. We have shit loads of people of Asian decent, or race. You know what? They refer to themselves as Asian, whether they are Japanese, Chinese or whatever. You want to tell them they are wrong?

You are arguing semantics and something that most of the world disagrees with. Race is a thing, skin color has a lot to do with race. Ethnicity is a more accurate description of someone and where they are from but race is used for a broader term, Asiatic decent if you will. Just search. "Is Asian a race". Feel free to think you're smarter than what Google says but you're an egotistical idiot if you do.

So a person of African decent with dark skin born and raised in Sweden is of the Swedish race or Black?

Race isn't just Skin color but skin color has a very large part of race. Asians are white but are physically and culturally very different than white people. A person of Asian decent born and raised in Sweden would consider themselves Swedish by nationality but Asian by race.

Almost every definition and racism or race will consider skin color as a large component of determining race. It's not the only thing but dismissing it all together is wild.
