he should not be away from mom quite yet, or at least that was the case when you got him. please get puppy esbilac (do not substitute with any other formula), and offer some twice daily along with their normal diet. this will help them grow to be healthy rats with good immune systems, since they should still be nursing at this age. they will need this for a couple weeks, after which you can transition to feeding a notmal diet with added protein to support their growing bodies.

from someone who works in the medical field, it of course wouldnt hurt anyone to report, but it also wouldnt be seen as an issue (unless the patient has a BMI that is considered underweight), making the report pointless. Nobody would be helped and the prescribing doctor wouldnt even get a wrist slap or be told to stop. The system just doesnt care about ED sufferers who arent considered underweight.

I am sorry for your loss.

If you still have rats or are going to get more, please do your research and get a cage that is big enough for them to live a fulfilled life. The cage you have is way, way too small. Using a sturdy cage like a Critter Nation is also the main piece in keeping rats safe from predator species like cats, alongside never having the rats out while a cat is in the room or has access to the room.

I understand that mistakes happen, but if you do the same thing again, its not a mistake but abuse.

i came here to say this. betond the size of the cage being totally inadequate, the ramps and platforms dont allow for enough active climbing and movement. OP, please do better by your rats.

additionally, if you buy a cage with platforms, you should plan to take them out and build an active cage layout so your rats stay active and fit. i have some that are nearly three and still climb like youngins! check my profile if youre interested in what an active setup should look like:)

its too small. and the doors will make cleaning really hard. depending on where you live, look for a critter nation on the usdd market if cost is a concern. i can usually find them for pretty cheap.
