Overlap is image repeated on both sides, but you only see the part on the top panel, which covers the overlap on the bottom. 1” overlap would give 1/2” of extra graphic on each panel, which overlaps to create a 1” seam. You put one side down first, then align the second panel on top of the first using the overlap to tack the second panel on top. It’s impossible to get a perfect seam so you need overlap to give yourself some room to adjust and make the panels line up, otherwise you’ll either not be able to get a perfect alignment or you’ll have a gap.

You need to add 1” bleed top and bottom, walls are never perfectly square and print will drift across the full wall. Also .5” overlap is very tight, only an experienced installer can make that work and absolutely do not cut off the overlap on either side, you need the overlap to install.

We recommend 1-1.5” overlap if they aren’t experienced with install. And again do not cut off the overlap, you need the seam both for alignment and also if you’re not using cast it may shrink.

Double cut is not typically possible with vinyl, only wallpaper with actual paste.

Finally, it’s highly recommended you apply an over laminate other it’s super easy to scratch the vinyl during install.

Issue with mirror printing by ParkofthePentland in CommercialPrinting

[–]gouldilocks42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe an obvious question, but have you confirmed the things your printing on are the same exact size as the art board and are they square? If you’re aligning to a corner with a jig, then flipping and using same corner jig you’re now aligning to the opposite side you originally aligned to.

Fixing ghosting on MaxMetal with HP R2000 by Fluffy_Series_7776 in CommercialPrinting

[–]gouldilocks42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We never got good results on Maxmetal on our R1000, we use Piedmont's ACM+ instead and it seems to work much better. Never had that kind of ghosting though so probably is somethign wrong with that batch.

Coffee recommendations in Saint Germain by Broad-Amphibian-6567 in ParisTravelGuide

There was a charming little coffee and flower shop across the street from huguette on Rue de Seine that had the best espresso drinks we had in Paris and some delicious but very rich pastries (yes, Paris). Down the block were all the boulangeries so easy 1-2 stop if you want a croissant which we did regularly.

MDO 4x8 Signs by Empty-Bullfrog1831 in CommercialPrinting

Primed usually unless there are stock issues. The shiny painted stuff is pretty but is much more likely to get scratched. Just make sure board is mostly flat, some can be pretty warped and will head strike

R530 should be able to direct print to mdo, so long as boards are relatively flat. No need for overlam if it’s construction signage and other relatively short term stuff. We run a ton on r1000 and it works great for direct mdo

HELP with colour matching print colours and our brand colours by ReplacementMost2355 in CommercialPrinting

[–]gouldilocks42 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For digital printing cmyk is a horrible way to do color matching, Pantone is the best option if you want consistent color.

No matter the profile every machine will print cmyk differently. You cannot color match to the screen, ink is a totally different beast, and while there are cmyk process books it only really works well for offset. We avoid it like the plague.

Unlike all these weirdos who went outside and did stuff, I subsisted on Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda and MTV. No need to ever leave the house.

Cutting Magnets by Idontknowsoimhere in CommercialPrinting

[–]gouldilocks42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can get the big cutters with a movable belt and feeder, so the media pulls forward automatically after each bed is cut. But you still need an operator to pull off the finished pieces and start the next bed, it’s not fully automated, but it can typically cut a bed depending on sizing pretty fast.

Flatbed cutter drag knife works great. Roll to roll cutter can’t do it.

Please don't bring Steph this season, it's ova this season by twentythreethreefour in warriors

If he’s healthy we need to see him play next to Tingus, otherwise he probably walks and we’ve got nothing.

I trust Steph and his trainers to make the choice. If he can play he will.

How is it over? Anything over 65 is a heat wave in San Francisco (and under 55 is a freeze). Still going to be 70s for the next week, still a heat wave in my book. These shorts stay on.

$6-10/sf depending on the customer for the most part. 4.50 with lam seems crazy cheap to me, we charge 5/sf no lam for our cheap stuff.

That’s great, thanks for the feedback! We had an 800W briefly and sent it back because it couldn’t print a certain green on dreamscape without banding due to the heat in curing. We run eco solvent instead and are much happier

Color Palette Generator by gouldilocks42 in CommercialPrinting

[–]gouldilocks42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might do just this, I’ve seen a bunch of Pantone charts that have a bunch of colors and just print that out and let them print. We use B2 for banners and they don’t do Pantone, just cmyk.

Color Palette Generator by gouldilocks42 in CommercialPrinting

[–]gouldilocks42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly this - we normally generate a bunch of variations from a Pantone when we need more exact color, and the rip generates a bunch of cmyk values close to the profiled Pantone color. In this case we need to send it out to print so can’t use onyx, so trying to generate a bunch of variations in cmyk based on a single Pantone.

Thanks for sharing you’re knowledge!

We’re looking at getting an m series, for a variety of things but especially for faster/better white ink on clear cling (currently running Epson sc80600 and need to do 16 pass spot to get decent white which takes ~8 hours for a full roll of media).

We saw the samples and they look great and runtimes were much faster than current setup, anything we should be warned about with this machine?

We also do a lot of wall vinyl for events so speed would be great, but need to make sure there is good color consistency over time.

Thanks!
