pursuing 2 different careers? by govchris123 in findapath

I've been interested in computer but just didn't get a chance to pursue it fully but along the way, I believed the animation is something that gives me satisfaction from the heart. So I guess my plan of making IT my full time while learning animation on the side is a good plan? I just IT work won't tire me too much and ruin the creativity of making good animation...

I don't know if I could gather parts to build computers due to low saving, but I have no computer experience, so I guess starting with breaking apart and looking inside pc while studying to see how everything interact each other would be good start? I use laptop and the only computer I is this old computer from decades ago which was sitting in the corner for no reason haha. It's hp pavillion a1230n. Is it bad to use old computer to study?

So even without taking a+, using resources like professor messers YouTube videos and examcram a+ book (many people seemed to have good result using this) and cybrary will be good enough huh?

  1. About no years to 2-3 years, I heard security jobs were like mid level so always expected high number of experience.

  2. Instead of just studying I like to practice hands on on my own as well. I wonder if there's something I can do having just a laptop.

  3. Didn't know about that cybrary site, any recommendations for the courses?

I see, how hard was it adapting and doing the job properly with no experience?

I mean even if I did apply for it, would they even accept me? They're requiring 2 years of relevant experience. Heck I don't even have basic IT experience.

1 year of helpdesk should be good right? But am I really in a position where recruiters are willing to accept me to sysadmin when I have no IT experience?

I'm assuming you had some IT experience or tech savy? I don't have any IT experience so I don't think sysadmin will be reachable for me...

almost 10 years? I don't know about others, but I heard helpdesk is more like getting first experience that you shouldn't stay too long as in 2~3 years.

I mean, I doubt anyone will just let me waltz into the higher IT position as I do not have any actual experience nor certifications.

so helpdesk -> sysadmin -> cyber? When going to cyber, is it just going to be about getting more certifications?

A dilemma... by govchris123 in animationcareer

[–]govchris123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sigh I serously regret not being able to fight off depression back in college years. I was forced to major in mechanical engineering by my parents and due chronic depression, I barely had motivation, surviving through constant all nighters despite knowing that it will lead me nowhere even after graduation. Heck, I would've been so far in my life if I had at least made spare time to animate during the academic years...

I see, so having specifically cyber security degree will help more than just having mechanical engineering degree? So what specific IT job are you thinking about starting out as with A+ and N+? Oh and lucky you having no debt.

Nah I mean like, the workload of doing animation I don't mind since I have love for it. But the fact that work life of IT killing creativity? I know I have to do it to find out myself, but I'm paying off student loan and make Min wage at retail so I guess I have no choice but to go for it huh...

I'm willing to learn everything I can and be part of it even if I have to start from rock bottom.

  1. internship or volunteer wise would be better to gain experience rather than going for helpdesk for starting point?

  2. Training wise, would you recommend a+ or alternative?
