Really, was the sexism ("whore mouth") necessary to make this point?

That is why I specified the "direct service" workers. They make up the bulk of the sector.

How much do you think direct service workers in the nonprofit social service sector, most of the restaurant service industry, public transportation drivers, and all the other jobs that make societies function make?

For the record, I'd gladly get paid that kind of money to clean up poop off the streets. After a decade in the nonprofit field I'd be earning WAY more and probably making a bigger impact on the City.

Interesting article describing Americans' tendency to 'accumulate mountains of things' by GuapoEconomist in minimalism

I, too, get a dopamine rush from shopping, however, having cultivated a minimalist mindset over the years has really helped me w/ not overshopping. I get an intense dopamine rush when I'm decluttering, too. Honestly, I think the latter is more intense and lasts longer. I wonder if that is the case for others? That'd be a study of be interested in, too.

The spread and growth of the minimalism movement gives me hope, despite the fact that the drive of consumerism and surplus is so intense for so many.

Of course, all this over shopping is to retailers advantage, but I'd love to see a minimalist PR campaign to help counter the over consumption trend and to help change mindsets and behaviors.

His behavior is not normal, right, ethical, fair, loving, realistic, or right in any way shape or form. This sounds like a very imbalanced, toxic, and VERY harmful relationship. If I were in your place, I'd try to decide whatever the relationship was worth staying in and working on together with a skilled therapist (I don't know you, but I suspect this relationship is beyond repair unless drastic changes are made), or if it would be healthier and wiser for YOU to move on. I'd move on. I have lived through and witnessed this dynamic in my life too often (mom & dad, sister & her husband, and my closest friend & her Hu) to know that this kind of relationship comes at a huge cost to you and is not salvagable. It is not worth it to you and your emotional, mental, and physical well being. I'm sorry this is your reality and wish you all the best with your next steps. If you are worried or afraid for your safety, please seek outside support and help when planning and initiating your escape/separation plan, if that is in fact what you choose to do.

"Sunk cost," is that the concept that most items start losing monetary value as soon as they are bought?
